Broer Roelf Vos

Wat ik mij van hem herinner is dat ik mijn eerste pop van hem kreeg, het was een lappen pop met een porselein gezichtje. Deze had hij gekocht in Groningen, vlak na het beëindiging van de oorlog. Er was toen nog niet veel te krijgen. Roelf was de enigste van ons met stijl recht haar wij hadden allemaal krullen. Als kind kamde ik zijn haar terwijl hij op de divan lag, en zette papillotjes in zijn haar. (Lapje of reepjes stof waar je het natte haar om heen rolde) Roelf was ook leider van de zondagschool, zowel in Valthe als in naaste dorp Klijndijk. Tevens was hij ook leider van de jeugdvereniging, zat daarvoor in Groningen op een cursus. Overdag ging hij met zijn koffers de boer op, zoals dat toen genoemd werd. Hij had dan bij zich twee koffers met kleding een grote achter op de fiets en voor een kleine koffer vooral met spullen die besteld waren. Hij verkocht sokken jaeger wol, truien en hemden, onderbroeken, schorten, theedoeken, handdoeken, knopen en band, elastiek en zakdoeken om maar iets op te noemen. Wat later had hij een motor en nog later een een auto. Roelf is getrouwd met Wiegertje Goedkoop, ze kregen een dochter Diyoeke die Joekie werd genoemd. Ze kwamen bij mijn ouders inwonen, omdat ze geen huis kregen, en Roelf graag de winkel wilde houden. Dit was passen en meten, maar zoals mijn moeder altijd zei; er gaan veel makke schapen in een hok. Maar …. Twee jaar later kwam broer Egbert thuis dat hij moest trouwen en geen onderdak had. Ja goede raad was duur dus kwamen ook deze twee er bij in. Egbert is getrouwd met Liny Bosma en ze kregen op mijn verjaardag een dochter.
Later is Broer Roelf verhuist naar Scheemda waar hij een bestaande textielwinkel overnam (van de fam Keizer). Waar hij slechts kort meer heeft geleefd na ruim een jaar is hij overleden aan kanker.
De winkel bestaat nog tot heden, en wordt nu gedreven door zijn zoon Bert.
