    De moeder van mijn moeder was Gezina Vos

    Mijn oma is geboren op 11 januari 1871 te Onstwedde. Overleden op 9 september 1949 in Valthe. Ze was eerder getrouwd met Hans Nonkes. Deze overleden op 28 februari 1891. Uit dit huwelijk was een zoon geboren Jan Nonkes. Hier ben ik ook naar vernoemd mijn tweede naam (Janny). In 1896 Gezina Vos gehuwd met Lucas Vos.
    Mijn oma Gezina Vos heb ik wel gekend, ook heb ik wel eens bij haar geslapen, en wat ik mij ook nog herinner dat ze een keer met ons mee is geweest naar de dierentuin in Emmen. Ook was tante Fenny de vrouw van Oom Gosse die in Limburg woonden er bij met haar twee dochters Sientje en Fenny, die bij ons logeerden. Dit is vermoedelijk in 1947 geweest. Van mijn moeder kregen we allen een ijsje, oma die nog nooit een ijsje had gehad vond het zo lekker dat ze haar portemonnee aan mijn moeder gaf en zei: Nu betaal ik, want dit is heel lekker. Na de oorlog kreeg iedereen die ruimte had inwoning omdat er gebrek was aan woonruimte. Bij mijn Oma kwam de dochter van onze buren met haar man inwonen dat waren Roelie Zuur en Evert Hollander. Ik herinner mij nog dat daar een baby was geboren die na enkele dagen overleed. Het kiste met de overleden baby stond bij mijn oma in de kamer voor het zijraam. Ik weet nog dat ik naast het kistje heb gezeten op de grond.
    Tijdens bevrijding van de oorlog 40 – 45 zaten wij in de kelder bij ons thuis. Oma was ook bij ons, ze zat op een rietenstoel in de kelder. Ik zat op een stoofje voor haar voeten. Er werd erg geschoten van achter uit het dorp. Bij het huis tegen over ons waar de familie Van Wijk woonde gingen de kogels door het dak en de schoorsteen. Mijn moeder had een grote pan eten staan op een oliestelletje in de kelder. Om de beurt ging er een van mijn broers of mijn vader kijken hoe de strijd gevorderd was. Rond 17.00 uur kwamen de eerste Canadese soldaten in auto’s door de straat rijden. In de zomer van 1949 kwam Oma ziek bij ons in de voorkamer liggen. Ze kwam maar weinig haar bed meer uit, ze had kanker.
    In die periode kwam de ouderdomswet van Drees waar zij recht op had, maar zij wilde het geld niet. Mijn moeder kon haar niet overtuigen dat ieder die de leeftijd van vijfenzestig of ouder bereikt had, dit ouderdomspensioen automatisch kreeg.
    Ze heeft enkele maanden daar ziek gelegen, op een weekend kwam oom Cor en mijn broer Lucas op bezoek. Zij vertelden aan oma dat ze niet bang behoede te zijn om te sterven, want dat haar man, opa Lukas haar kwam halen. Zij geloofde dat niet. Oom Cor en broer Luc hebben dit verhaal opgeschreven en in een enveloppe in de bijbel gelegd. Op de middag van haar overgaan zat mijn moeder en enkele van haar broers bij het bed van Oma. Oma reageerde al een tijdje nergens meer op, plotseling deed ze haar ogen open en ging zitten en zij zei: "Het is waar: ik zie Lukas, Lukas komt mij halen, ik ga nu, Lukas ik kom."

    Aanvulling:
    Gezina Vos had last van reuma, waardoor dochter Pietertje al op jonge leeftijd mee moest helpen in het Hotel van Lukas Vos, maar ook thuis moest ze veel helpen.
    Tegen de reuma ging Gezina Vos enkele malen met de koets naar Duitsland om goud injecties te halen.
