Broer Egbert Vos

Mijn jongste broer al was hij elf jaar ouder dan ik. Grote plannen, veel ideeën maar niet zoveel geluk. Hij mocht naar de Ulo (uitgebreid lager onderwijs) en dat was in die tijd al heel wat. De reden hiervoor was zijn niet al te sterke gezondheid, bronchitis en astmatisch. Na dat hij deze school had verlaten ging hij werken bij de firma Hoekstra, waar voornamelijk radio’s werden verkocht. Nadat de Akzo fabrieken gingen draaien in Emmen is hij daar begonnen in ploegendienst. Ooit heeft hij ook plannen gehad om te emigreren naar Canada of Australië, hij had al Engelse les genomen, en alles was bijna in kannen en kruiken, maar om zijn chronische ziekte werd hij afgekeurd. Ook heeft hij met nertsen gefokt, eerst bij mijn ouders achter het huis en later nog bij zijn schoonouders, maar jammer genoeg moest hij dit ook weer verkopen te weinig medewerking. En er zit veel tijd in de verzorging nodig om deze dieren op tijd te kunnen voeren en het voer klaar te maken. Naast een dagtaak op de fabriek was het voor een persoon niet te doen. Vooral mijn vader had er veel arbeid in gestoken, samen met Egbert hebben ze zelf de kooien gevlochten van betonijzer. Egbert is begonnen met twaalf hokken en elk jaar kwamen er wat hokken bij.
Nadat Egbert getrouwd is hebben ze nog een jaar bij mijn ouders ingewoond, waar ook hun dochter Ina geboren is op mijn verjaardag. Daarna zijn ze met de nertsen en al vertrokken naar de Exloermond bij Liny ouders in huis. De nertsen zijn naar een half jaar verkocht, zijn vrouw Liny kon er niet tegen. Mijn broer kon het werk niet aan, naast de drie ploegendienst op de Akzo. Hij had op dat moment 140 nertsen. Ze hebben enkele jaren bij haar ouders ingewoond, daar is ook hun tweede dochter geboren Pia. Egbert heeft toen een huis in Valthe gekocht, een oud huis wat hij in gedeeltes heeft afgebroken, en er nieuw voor in de plaats heeft gezet. Daarna heeft hij met konijnen gefokt, wat ook door omstandigheden niet kon worden voort gezet, hierna heeft hij een honden pension opgezet en ook fokte hij met Ierse Setters. Maar ook dit is nooit echt goed van de grond gekomen. Ze hebben toen een huis in Emmen gekocht. Hij werd voorzitter van een Spirituele vereniging in Groningen “Harmonia”. Ook heeft hij getracht een praktijk op te starten als hypnotherapeut, maar dit is ook niet echt geslaagd. Enkele jaren later is hij gescheiden, hij was toen al behoorlijk ziek, ook de oude kwalen kwamen weer in versterkte mate terug.
In 1999 kreeg hij kennis aan Heleen Schoenmaker, en in juni 2000 zijn ze getrouwd, zodat zij in het huis mocht blijven wonen als hij zou komen de overlijden. Hij is overleden in november 2000, zo gebeurde het dat twee broers van mij in een jaar overgingen. Alleen een zus had ik nog, maar die wil niets van mij weten. Ze woont in Emmen. Heleen de tweede vrouw van Egbert woont ook nog steeds in Emmen, af en toe komen we bij haar op bezoek. Liny Bosma Egbert zijn eerste vrouw is naar Holten verhuist na de scheiding, ze wilde graag dichter bij haar kinderen wonen. Helaas is zij in februari 2003 overgegaan, en op de dag van Zita’s geboorte begraven. Zita is onze kleindochter ze werd geboren op 17 februari 2003
