"Troyce Post [July 16, 1930 - July 14, 2019]

Troyce Melinda (Bruns) Post, age 88, died peacefully at Titonka Care Center in Titonka on Saturday morning, July 14, 2019, two days shy of her 89th birthday. A funeral service was held Thursday, July 18 at 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Titonka.

Troyce was born July 16, 1930, the daughter of Heiko and Amanda (Franzen) Bruns. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka. Troyce attended country school in German Valley and graduated from Titonka High School in 1948. After graduation, she continued to live with her parents, helping on the family farm.

On a bitterly cold day, November 16, 1955, Troyce married Erwin Post at Immanuel Lutheran. They made their home on the family farm where they lived and worked for the next 52 years. Troyce and Erwin were blessed with four sons and four daughters.

Troyce's devotion to her family was evident in so many ways - hot loaves of bread for breakfast and after school, endless pans of bars and cookies, blankets warmed in the dryer on cold nights. Her children never missed a day of Sunday School or a church service. In addition to her day-to-day responsibilities, Troyce found time each summer to can and freeze a bounty of fruits and vegetables to feed her family through the year. It would be impossible to count how many field lunches she prepared, or how many cups of afternoon tea were served at her table.

Troyce had a quick wit and a ready smile. She loved to read and learn and was an Olympic-level Scrabble player (who won most of the time). Her feigned irritation with her children's rowdiness was often expressed in the classic Mom-ism, "Oh for dumb".

As her children grew, Troyce found time to become more active in church and social events. At Immanuel, she sang in the choir, helped with receptions for funerals and bridal showers, quilted, led Bible studies, chaired the women's group, and performed with the Kitchen Klatter Band.

Troyce and Erwin moved from the farm to Titonka in 2007, where they lived until the spring of 2016, when both became residents of the Titonka Care Center.

She is survived by her eight children: David (Sherri) Post, Titonka, Mary (Mark) Bower, Coon Rapids, [IA] JoAnn (James Nieman), Northbrook, IL, Janet (Doug) Greene, Marion, [IA] John (Karen) Post, Coon Rapids, MN; Stephen (Kristin) Post, Pleasant Hill, [IA]; Paul (Nancy) Post, Cedar Falls, [IA] and Carolyn Post, San Francisco, [CA]. Fifteen grandchildren: Brooke Anderson (Keenan Bakken), Hannah (Jordan) Leuschen, Kaitlin Anderson, Hannah Bower, Ross (Jordan) Bower, Clara (Joseph Malack) Nieman, Madelene Nieman, Leah Post, Benjamin Post, Nicole Post, Ryan Post, Alyssa (Nathan) Dick, Hannah (Pablo) Ness, Joshua Post and Maximillian Bormann; three great-grandsons, Jackson Bower, Kaleb and Cooper Dick; and the anticipated Nieman-Malack great-grandchild; a sister and a brother: Amanda Bruns and LeRoy Bruns, both of Titonka; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Berneice and DeWayne Maass, Buffalo Center [IA]; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Troyce was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Erwin, in 2017; her parents, Heiko and Amanda Bruns; her parents-in-law, Evert and Annie Post; a brother, Alfred, in childhood; a sister and brother-in-law, Marvella and Art Post; in-laws Viona and Wilbur Welhousen; Melvin and Berneice Post, and Sandie Bruns.

Troyce will be remembered as a woman of faith, a devoted wife and a loving mother.
