"Amanda Harriet Bruns May 31, 1932-January 12, 2024

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka. The funeral service will be live streamed on Oakcrest Funeral Services' Facebook page. Burial will be held in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20 and will continue until the time of service.

Amanda Harriet Bruns was born May 31, 1932, on the family farm in German Township north of Titonka. She was the fourth child of Heiko and Amanda (Franzen) Bruns.

Amanda was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Titonka, where she was both baptized and confirmed. She began her education at German Valley country school and graduated from Titonka High School in 1949. Following graduation, Amanda continued to live on the family farm. In 1960, she moved with her parents into their newly-built home in Titonka. She shared her love of gardening and flowers with her parents, and cared for them in their later years. Amanda moved into assisted living in Algona in 2015. She became a resident of the Titonka Care Center in 2017, where she lived the remainder of her years.

In 1963, Amanda began her career as secretary to the superintendent at Titonka Consolidated Schools. She faithfully served the school and its students until retiring in 1997. All who attended Titonka School remember her as the kind, friendly office secretary who greeted them with a smile as they passed the office and when she punched their lunch tickets. During these years, Amanda developed lifelong friendships with several of her co-workers.

Family and faith were the cornerstones of Amanda's life. Among many roles in her church, she was active in the women's group, including serving as president for a time; church choir; church council; Kitchen Klatter band; teaching Sunday School; quilting and participating in Bible Study. Her well-worn Bible was always close-at-hand, a book she not only studied but lived as an example to others.

Amanda's family cherished their frequent visits with her, including coffee each morning and afternoon tea at 3 p.m. She will be remembered for her Christmas treats of raisin-filled cookies, cut-out cookies and peanut butter bonbons. Amanda enjoyed traveling, most notably trips to Hawaii and San Francisco. Amanda served on the Titonka Centennial Cookbook Committee in 1998 and participated in a bowling league.

Welcoming Amanda to heaven are her parents, Heiko and Amanda; her older brother, Alfred, in 1931; older sisters Marvella and her husband Arthur Post, and Troyce and her husband Erwin Post; younger brother LeRoy and his wife Sandra Bruns; and a great niece, Christine Lynn Post, in infancy.

Left to cherish her memory are 17 nieces and nephews: Barbara Greenfield, Marilyn Tarbet, James Post, Kenneth Post and Allen Post; David Post, Mary Bower, JoAnn Post, Janet Greene, John Post, Stephen Post, Paul Post and Carolyn Post; LeAnn Bruns, Cindy Hoover, Wendy Harms and Patty Hassebroek; as well as 34 great nieces and nephews and 32 great-great nieces and nephews.

Aunt Amanda passed into eternity peacefully on Jan. 12 at the Titonka Care Center. She was 91 years old. She leaves a legacy of faith, gentleness and kindness that will be treasured forever.

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Well done, good and faithful servant.
