"Edna J. Balvance
Edna J. Balvance, 92, passed away Wednesday, January 23, A funeral service was held Saturday January 26 at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.
Edna Jeanette (Sleper) Balvance was born February 6, 1920 to John E. and Etta (Rippentrop) Sleper. She was the fifth of seven children and graduated from Titonka High School in 1937.
Edna met Lawrence Balvance at a Sunday school picnic, and they were married February 21, 1040 at Ramsey REformed Church. They were married for 64 years and blessed with three children: Beth, Larry and Jean.
Edna and Lawrence farmed in the Buffalo Center area for twenty years and later purchased the Hardware Store in town, where Edna enjoyed fixing windows, mixing paint and waiting on customers. After retirement, she had more time to enjoysewing, baking, embroidery and coffee parties.
Edna is survived by her daughters: Beth Kettterling (Rich) of St. Michael, MN: Jean Faber (Rick) of Omaha, NE; and daughter-in-law, Carol Balvance of Shakopee, MN. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren andsister-in-law, Erna Sleper of Titonka.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her four sisters and two brothers; her husband, Lawrence; her son, Larry; her grandson, Scott; and son-in-law David."
