Notes about Salmah (Selmah) (Selma) A. Alwood

Salmah A. Alwood [The initial may be Salmah's birth family name]

Sources: Author: Cawthorn, Dorothy, Title: Kopfman/Hill FGS, (Publication site: Toledo OH, Publisher: DDC, Publication date: ca. MCMLXXXIX)

cf. Author: Klaus, Terry, Title: «u»The Family Alwood«/u», (Publication site: Crescent City, CA, Publisher: T.K., Publication date: June MCMXCI), pg. 216, Repository: Dallas TX pub. lib.

The possible middle initial comes from the pension application of her husband, William Edward Hill. He lists his wife's name as Salmah A. Hill. It is possible the 'A' stands for Salmah's maiden surname Alwood.

Author: Hanna, Jacquelyn; Title: Letter to David A. Navorska, (Publication site: Egatrop, MI, Publisher: JH, Publication date: xiii Jan MCMXCIII), pg. 1

"I ... saw the Alwood plot in the [Cass City] City Cemetery. The only stone is of your ancestor Salmah (Alwood) Hill."

Author: Sutton, JoAnn; Title: Letter to David Navorska, (Publication site: Swanton OH, Publisher: JS, Publication date: xxii Feb MCMXCVIII), pg. 2

JoAnn writes, "...obit (I have it) Selmahs' name is listed as Salina Alwood but she has signed her name as Selmah & she should Know."

Author: Cawthorn, Dorothy Donnelly; Copist; Title: E.K & Elizabeth Alwood Bible, (Publication site: Toledo, OH Publisher: E.K.A., Publication date: n.d.)

When Dorothy Donnelly Cawthorn was a girl, she visited the Charles & Mary (Sherwood) Kohler home. She was given the contents of a leather pouch to examine. The papers were transcriptions of pages from the Ephraim & Elizabeth Alwood Bible. Dorothy made a copy of everything for her records. She made a hand-written copy for me about 1988. Dorothy was at my mother's funeral on 1 Feb 1989 in Ashland OH. The copy she made and mailed to me was a year or so before that. Here are some quotations from her copy:

"... Salma Alwood born Aug 17 - 1842 ... Salma Alwood was married July 17 - 1865 ... Property of Mrs. Elizabeth Alwood"

The 1st name, Salma, has no 'h'.
