WEH Sr. gives 1870 as yob on Civil War pension application dated 1915; however, the 1870 census gives WEHJr. age 1. The 1870 census was taken 8 days before 3 Aug. 1870, the date given by William's father 45 years later on his pension application. It is quite possible, WEHJr. was born 3 Aug 1868 or 1869. Family tradition has place of birth = Cass City, but census records place the family in Elkland Twp.

According to Joseph H. Bowles Ebel (b.1907), WEH Jr. died of a tooth infection after pulling his own tooth. Uncle Joe refered to him as 'Will'.
