'Alwood, Levi S., Esq. - Father of Wm. Alwood of Man[chester], killed by horse in Cooney, Ohio 10 July 1897; d. at res. of Geo. L. Wilson. He lived in Man. many yrs. & had left only couple of wks. ago to live in O. for wife's health.Was asst. postmaster here under Harrison. Meth. Liked by all. Bur. in Malcolm cem. in O. 70 yrs., 8 mos. 28 days old.'

Levi was buried in Williams Co., OH. It is possible that the residence of Geo. L. Wilson, his son-in-law, was in a twp. in Williams Co. also. Cooney is so close to the IN & MI borders that the Wilson farm might be in 1 of those states or in OH.

Obituary from the Montpelier OH Leader 22 July 1897

"Died-Levi S. Alwood at the residence of Mr. Geo. L. Wilson, near Cooney, Ohio on July 10th, 1897. Aged 70 years, 8 months and 28 days. The deceased was the father of 10 children of whom 7 survive. He was converted and joined the M. E. church, South, in 1887, of which he remained a consistant member until called home. He leaves a lonely widow and 7 children to cherish his memory and deplore his untimely death. The sermon was preached on Monday, July 12th, at the C. U. church in Northwest Center by the pastor, Rev. G. W. Long, attended by a large gathering of friends and neighbors. He was laid away to rest in the Malcolm cemetery. May the wife and children be comforted by the Saviour, the Healer of the broken hearted."

"LEVI S. ALWOOD was born in Harrison County, Ohio, Oct. 13, 1826, and while quite young moved to Fulton County with his parents. He had the advantages of a common school education, and resided there until 1861, when he came to TuscolaCounty and settled in Elkland, on section 34. In 1870 he removed to Indian Fields and lived on a farm in Caro, where he remained until 1873, when he sold his property and went to Tennessee. He settled in Coffee County, remaining thereuntil 1876, when he removed to Illinois, where he resided about two and one half years. In 1879, he returned to Tuscola County and, in 1880, purchased eighty acres of land, which he traded for property in Cass City, and in the fall of 1881, traded that for land in section 10, in Novesta. He was married in July, 1849, to Miss Delilah McQuilling, of Fulton County, Ohio, who was born in Wayne County, Ohio, in 1830, by whom he has ten children, of whom nine are nowliving. Mr. Alwood has been a hard working, industrious man, working in the woods winters and on the farm summers. He kept the hotel now occupied by George Tennant, in Cass City, and has held all the township offices except those of supervisor and justice of the peace."
