'SALISBURY, Joseph (f) 18 Sep 1876 Ae 78y-3m-7d'

1876 Sep 18 - 78y 3m 7d ------------------- 1798 6 11 ===> dob = 11 Jun 1798. This is what would be calculated from the gravestone as read in 1984.

1850 Pike Twp., Fulton Co., OH Census, Repository: Dallas TX Pub. Lib.:

'Joseph Salisbury ae 37 male farmer real estate worth $2500 born in OH. Magdalina Salisbury age 37 fem. born Switzerland.'

If this census is accurate, both Joseph & Magdalina were born ca. 1813. Also, 1813 was about the time Peter Salsberry, Joseph's father migrated to Harrison Co., OH from Cumberland Co., PA. This adds credence to Joseph's yob = ca. 1813.I think the gravestone is wrong. Need to check the 1860 & 1870 censuses to verify age. I will accept the month & days but not the years of age.

The 1870 census, Repository: Dallas TX Pub. Lib. has Joseph born in PA

8 June 1880 Pike Twp Fulton Co OH census, pg 89C-11, Repository: Dallas TX Pub. Lib.

'12, 11, 14, Salsbery J, white, male, 69, widowed or divorced, Farmer, b. PA, parents b. PA 13, Permilee, white, fem, 20, Daug, single, keeping House, b. OH, fath b. PA, moth b. Switz 14, Adeliei [or Adelia], white, fem, 15, Granddaug, single, help to keep House, b. OH parents b. OH'

Adelia is Mary Adelia Dinius.

Seaman, Vashti, Pioneers Around Delta, Ohio, (Wauseon OH, Wauseon DAR, x Mar MCMLXXVI), pg. 1, Repository: Evergreen pub. lib., Metamora, OH

'JOSEPH SALSBERRY was b. ca. 1813 PA and is living in Pike Twp, 1850. He m. after their arrival in Fulton Co. to MAGDALENA SCHLAPPI, a dau. of CHRISTIAN SCHLAPPI, and this family were early settlers in Pike Twp. from Switzerland.CHRISTIAN SCHLAPPI is buried in the Salsberry Cemetery.

In 1850 Census we find JOSEPH is 37 years old.
MAGDALENA, age 37 b. Switzerland
PRISCILLA SALSBERRY, age 11, b. O.
MARY SALSBERRY, age 7, b. O.
SABRINA SALSBERRY, age 3, b. O.
PAMELA SALSBERRY, age 1, b. O.
And JOSEPH, SALSBERRY, age 21, b. O.

Several children died young and buried in the old Salsberry Cemetery.

JOSEPH SALSBERRY d. in 1886, and his will is in Vol. 5, p 445, signed Apr. 8, 1886. His wife had died and he willed his grandchildren:

And the remainder among the other grandchildren: JOSEPH SALSBURY DINIUS, SABRINA DINIUS, SABRINA ADALINE BOYNTON, GEORGE I. DINIUS, MARY ADELINE DINIUS, HENRY CLAY DINIUS and SAMUEL F. DINIUS, ... except the part of about 2 acresoccupied by the SALSBURY CEMETERY.'

'...bro-in-law--Joseph SALISBURY DIED in Pike Twp. BURIED in Salisbury Cemetery'

Lozer, Mark, Surnames of Fulton County Ohio, (Fulton Co., OH, M.L., read vi July MM)

'+9 viii. Joseph SALISBURY was born 1813 in OH.'

Hanna, Jackie, Deaths extracted from Fulton Co death registers (1867 - 1922), v. 1-3, LDS film 0423615, (Portage MI, J.H., xii Feb MMII)

'v.pg 2,161 Date of Death 18 Sep 1886 Saulsbery, Joseph age 76 marital status Widower cause of death rheumatism'

Using date 18 Sep 1886 & age of death from the grave stone, date of birth would be: 11 Jun 1808

Using date 18 Sep 1886 & age from death record = 76, then Joseph was born:18 Sep 1809 through 18 Sep 1810.

I am blending the grave stone with the death record to achieve a date of birth = 11 June 1810 & a date of death = 18 Sep 1886. I am assuming the age on the stone is correct. I am assuming the year of death on the stone was misread. Iam assuming the age 76 on the death record is wrong. To calculate date of birth, I am subtracting 78y3m7d from 18 Sep 1886 to get date of birth = 11 June 1808.
