"Margaret Stecker, 88

Funeral services for Margaret Stecker, 88, of Titonka were held Saturday, June 1 at 2:00 p.m. at the Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. Rev. James Berka officiated. Organist Doris Leech provided the music. Casketbearers were MauriceAndersen, Michael Lichter, Thomas Lichter, John Sleper, John Stecker and Todd Stecker. Interment was in the Good Hope Cemetery at Titonka. Margaret passed away Thursday, May 30, 2002 at the Titonka Care Center.Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Stecker, daughter of John E. and Etta (Rippentrop) Sleper, was born March 6, 1914. She grew up in Titonka and graduated from Titonka High School. She attended Cedar Falls Teachers School and taught country school in GermanTownship before her marriage. She married Henry L. Stecker on July 26, 1935 in Titonka. After their marriage they lived in the Titonka area and farmed until 1982 when they retired and moved into Titonka. She loved spending time withher family and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, quilting, crocheting, sewing and ceramics. She was a resident of the Titonka Care Center since December 1993.

Margaret is survived by nine children: Beverly Anderson and her husband, Maurice, of Sarasota, Florida; Marlys Randick and her husband, Robert, of Lafayette, California; Harlen Stecker of Isanti, Minnesota; Bruce Stecker and his wife,Joyce, of Buffalo, Minnesota; Lemont Stecker of Crow Heart, Wyoming; Virginia Axtell and her husband, Stan, of LaSalle, Colorado; Dean Stecker and his wife, Linda, of Indianola; Jocelyn Stecker of Edina, Minnesota; Margaret Lichter andher husband, Tom, of Burt; nineteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Edna Balvance of Buffalo Center, Greta Aukes of Woden and Mildred Miller of Britt; one brother, Evert Sleper of Titonka, a brother-in-law, LouisBoomgarden of Illinois; a sister-in-law, Erna Sleper of Titonka; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on July 3, 1988; a son, Darrell; two grandchildren, Scott Stecker and Heather Lichter; one sister; Anna Boomgarden, and one brother, John Sleper."
