Ronald and Gretchen were married March 12, 1946 at the Lakota First Presbyterian Church and have lived in the Lakota area their entire married life. The couple has three children: a daughter, Kathy Sundig, Kiester, Minnesota; and two sons, Gary and Bruce, both of Lakota.

"Gretchen Heetland, 82

Gretchen Heetland, age 82, of Titonka,, formerly of Lakota, died on Friday, March 27, 2009, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Lakota with PastorDonna Steven officiating. Music was furnished by organist Carol Evers and soloist Judy Junkermeier. Honorary bearers were Annette Gunerson, Heidi Olson, Sara Paal, Lisa Sunding, Shelby Heetland, Macy Heetland, Makayla Heetland and ShaylaHeetland. Active casketbearers were Terry Blome, Earl Westphal, Lyle Mabus, Donald Rippentrop, Richard Paulsen and Rod Smith. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery in Lakota. The Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center was in charge ofarrangements.

Gretchen Geraldine Heetland, daughter of Olvert and Minnie (Sleper) Rippentrop, was born on January 28, 1927, at Ramsey Township, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. Gretchen was a graduate of Ledyard High School.

On March 12, 1946, Gretchen was united in marriage to Ronald Heetland. Together they farmed and raised three children: Gary, Kathy, and Bruce. Gretchen was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving in the Women's Circle and, with Ron, cleaned and cared for the church building.

Gretchen's grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to her life. She and Ron also liked to travel some during the winter months, visiting family in Arizona and Las Vegas. In June of 2007, Gretchen became a resident of theTitonka Care Center. She departed from this life on Friday, March 27, 2009, at the age of 82 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathy Sunding and her husband, John, of Kiester, Minnesota; Bruce Heetland and his wife, Dawn, of Lakota; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law Gerald Heetlandand his wife, Donna, of Las Vegas; and six sisters-in-law: Miriam Stafford of Colorado; Norma Smith of Lakota; Florence Paulsen of Lakota; Joan Mabus and her husband, Glen, of Lakota; Wanda Blome of Ledyard; and Adah Rippentrop of Titonka.
