"A 50th wedding anniversary open house honoring Ronald and Gretchen Heetland of Lakota will be held Sunday, March 17, 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, Lakota.

Ronald and Gretchen were married March 12, 1946 at the Lakota First Presbyterian Church and have lived in the Lakota area their entire married life. The couple has three children: a daughter, Kathy Sundig, Kiester, Minnesota; and two sons, Gary and Bruce, both of Lakota.

The couple requests no gifts, please."

Funeral services for Ronald E. Heetland, 87, of Lakota were held Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, Lakota with Pastor Donna Stevens officiating. Music was provided by Carol

Evers, organist and soloist Gerald Heetland. Casketbearers were Terry Blome, Lyle Mabus, Richard Paulsen, Tyler Heetland, Jeff Olson and Rod Smith. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery with military rites conducted by Lakota American Legion Post 652. The Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center was in charge of arrangements.

Ronlad E. Heetland, son of Jerry and Leona (Winter) Heetland, was born June 28, 1920 at Lakota, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the First Presbyterian Church in Lakota. Ron was a graduate of the Lakota High School and then served in the US Army during World War II. On March 12, 1946, Ron was united in marriage to Gretchen Rippentrop. Together they farmed and raised three children Gary, Kathy, and Bruce. He was a life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church, serving as Trustee and with Gretchen, cleaned and cared for the church building. He was also a member of the Lakota American

Legion Post 652 for 61 years.

Ron's grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to his life. He and Gretchen also liked to travel some during the winter months, visiting family in Arizona and Las Vegas.

In January of 2004, Ron became a resident fo the Titonka Care Center where he departed from this life on Sunday, February 1, 2008 at the age of 87.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Gretchen; his children; Gary Heetland of Lakota, Kathy Sunding and her husband, John, of Kiester, Minnesota; Bruce Heetland and his wife, Dawn, of Lakota; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Heetland and his wife, Donna, of Las Vegas; four sisters: Miriam Stafford of Colorado; Norma Smith of Lakota; Florence Paulsen of Lakota; Joan Mabus and her husband, Glen, of Lakota; and Wanda Blome of Ledyard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Wayne Heetland, and a grandson, John."
