"JOE AND CORA (EISENHAUER) ABELS
Joe Abels, son of John and Johanna Minnie (Myering) Abels was born on a farm near Kamrar, Iowa on July 26, 1914. His parents later moved to a farm near Buffalo Center. He was one of four children: John, Jr., Joe, Jennie and Edward.
Cora Eisenhauer, born on July 20, 1916 is the daughter of August Eisenhauer and Helen (Berschman) Eisenhauer. She is one of six children: Anna, Cora, Harold, Jack, Velma and Dorothy.
Joe and Cora met at the end of their parents' farm driveways where they lived across frm one another about three miles north and three miles east of Buffalo Center. This acquaintance blossomed into marriage on January 15, 1937.
Farming was their livelihood and always a farm to be proud of. They started farming northeast of Buffalo Center and later moved to their present farm three and one-quarter miles north of town.
Five children were born to this family: David, born October 17, 1937; Don, born May 18, 1941; Barb, born September 25, 1944; Jan, born October 28, 1947; Bev, born November 2, 1949.
David was married to Jane Johnson from Forest City, Iowa. Dave and Jane live on the Joe Abels farm north of town and are the parents of three children: Daniel, married to Deb Shortenhaus, frms west of Thompson, Iowa; Julie, married toVince Johnson, farms near Swea City, Iowa; and Cory at home. They have four grandchildren: Adam and Andrew Abels and Lyndsay and Lacey Johnson."

Don is married to Marlys Donner. They have three children: Jeff, married to Mona Sloboden of Russel, North Dakota; Lori and Christy. Don lives in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin and is a senior service engineer for Case 1H.
Barb is married to Larry Weaver. Barb works as a secretary at the Buffalo Center-Rake Schools and larry is a rural mail carried pulling out of Lakota, Iowa. Ther daughter, Cindy, is married to Randy Meinders and they live in Alta, Iowa.Randy is a supervisor at IBP in Storm Lake, Iowa. They have three sons: Joshua, Christopheer and Samuel. Todd is a student at Mankato Tech in Mankato, Minnesota and also serves in the Army National Guard as an artillery gunner.
Janice is married to David Kiewiet. Janice is bookkeeper for their trucking business - Dave Kiewiet Trucking. Dave is leased to MCT out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and employs six other drivers. Steve works as an agent for thePrincipal Financial Group and attends college. He also serves in the Naval Reserves as a hospital corpsman and at this writing has been called to active duty for the Desert Shield operation at Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. Sean is astudent at Iowa State University and Becky is at home.
Bev is married to Allen Murra and they live in Centerville, South Dakota, where he manages hog confinement setup and Bev is a secretary at South Dakota State University in Vermillion. They have three sons: Jay, Mike and Ben at home.
Joe and Cora purchased the Bess Patterson home at 418 North Main in Buffalo Center in March 1984. They totally remodeled the home and moved to town on September 25, 1985.
On January 15, 1987 they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with all their family and friends at the First Baptist Church. This day was most special because Joe was fighting cancer and this day was "his" day to share Cora beforehis fight ended. Joe passed away September 2, 1987.
Cora lives in town in the home on 418 North Main. Embroidering is a favorite hobby, making all of her children and grandchildren keepsakes for their homes. A trip to Germany in 1989 with her brothers Jack and Harold and their wives andher sister Anna to visit their cousin and family will never be forgotten. Many sites of their father's homeland were visited. She continues to enjoy bus trips and is active in her church, visiting the sick and shutins."

Funeral services for Joe Abels, 73, of Buffalo Center were held Saturday morning, September 5 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with clergyman Rev. Merle Hoots and Rev. Steve Oeffling officiating. Interment wasin Olena Mound Cemetery with 'Winter Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. Mr. Abels passed away Wednesday, September 2 at the United Hospital at Blue Earth, MN, at the age of 73 years, one month and seven days.
Active casketbearers were Dan Abels, Todd Weaver, Jeff Veach, Stephen Kiewiet, Jay Murra and Sean Kiewiet. Honorary casketbearers were Mike Murra, Ben Murra and Cory Abels. Mrs. Vera Bronleewe was the organist and Stephen Kiewiet, thesoloist.
Joe Abels, son of John and Johanna (Meyering) Abels, was born July 26, 1914 in Kamrar, Iowa. He lived in Kamrar until 1920 when the family moved to a farm near Buffalo Center.
On January 15, 1937 he was united in marriage to Cora Eisenhauer. They farmed north of Buffalo Center until 1979 and on September 25, 1985 they moved to their present home in Buffalo Center.
Joe accepted the Lord as his own personal Savior in November of 1952. He was a member of the First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, trustee, Sunday School teacher, AWANA leader and also working at Rural Bible Children's Camp for 13 summers.
He is survived by his wife, Cora; two sons, David of Buffalo Center and Don of Sioux Falls, SD; three daughters, Barbara (Mjs,, Larry (Weaver), Janice (Mrs. David Kiewiet), both of Buffalo Center, and Beverly (Mrs. Allen Murra) ofCenterville, SD; 13 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother, Edward Abels of Bonduel, WI; two sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John, and one sister, Jen."

"Joe Abels Observed Silver Wedding
The Silver Wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Abels was observed at their home in Buffalo Center Monday evening, January 15 with only relatives, numbering 55 in attendance.
A nice program arranged by Mrs. David Abels and Barbara Abels was given. During the luncheon the coffee service was attended by Mrs. John Abels, Jr. The three tiered anniversary cake was cut and served by Mrs. Harold Eisenhauer and Mrs.Jack Eisenhauer. Janice Abels took charge of the guest book and Beverly Abels assisted with the gifts and cards.
