Joe Abels, son of John and Johanna Minnie (Myering) Abels was born on a farm near Kamrar, Iowa on July 26, 1914. His parents later moved to a farm near Buffalo Center. He was one of four children: John, Jr., Joe, Jennie and Edward.
Cora Eisenhauer, born on July 20, 1916 is the daughter of August Eisenhauer and Helen (Berschman) Eisenhauer. She is one of six children: Anna, Cora, Harold, Jack, Velma and Dorothy.
Joe and Cora met at the end of their parents' farm driveways where they lived across frm one another about three miles north and three miles east of Buffalo Center. This acquaintance blossomed into marriage on January 15, 1937. ... Larry, Barb and Todd Weaver accompanied Randy and Cindy Meinders and family to their church in Algona Sunday, January 10 and then all went out to dinner in honor of Larry and Barb's 25th anniversary. In the afternoon other family memberscame to the Meinders home, to surprise Larry and Barb in honor of the occasion. In attendance were Don and Lori Abels, Marlys and Christy Donner all of Sioux Falls, SD, Al and Bev Murra, Jay, Mike and Ben of Centerville, SD, Vince and Julie Johnson, and Lindsy of Swea City, Dan and Deb Abels and Adam of Thompson, Ann Marie Asmus of Rake, Dave and Jane Abels and Cory, Dave and Jan Kiewiet, Sean and Becky and Cora Abels all of Buffalo Center."

Miss Barbara Louise Abels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Abels of Buffalo Center, and Larry Burt Weaver, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Weaver of Buffalo Center were united in holy matrimony Saturday, January 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the home of her parents. Rev. Bernard Samuels, pastor of the Buffalo Center Congregational Church, performed the double ring ceremony in the presence of the immediate families.
Mrs. Bernard Samuels was the organist and played "Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us."
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a winter white wool sheath dress, a small hat with a short veil, and brown accessories. Her corsage consisted of three red roses.
The maid of honor, Janice Abels, sister of the bride, wore a white dress with black accessories and a corsage of one red rose and a carnation.
Mick Weaver, brother of the groom, served as best man.
The bride's mother wore a blue-gray dress and the groom's mother wore a navy blue dress. Both wore corsages of white mums.
A reception was given at the home of the bride's parents after the ceremony. A 3-tier wedding cake centered the table decorated"

After a short wedding trip, the couple is making their home at Buffalo Center.
Mrs. Weaver is a graduate of the Buffalo Center Community School and has been employed at the Walker-Deluxe at Lake Mills.
Mr. Weaver also graduated from the Buffalo Center Community School and is employed at the Buffalo Center Lumber Company."

Memorial services for Barbara L. Weaver, 79, were held Tuesday, July 30 at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. Barb passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Barbara Louise Weaver was born on September 25, 1944, in Buffalo Center [IA] to Joe and Cora Abels. She joined brothers David and Donald, and Janice and Beverly soon followed. Barb grew up on the farm, and learned early on how to work hard.
After graduating from Buffalo Center High School in 1962, she was united in marriage to Larry Weaver on January 5, 1963. They had two children, Cindy and Todd. Barb worked various jobs in her lifetime, but her favorite job was working as a secretary at the school. She enjoyed working with the staff and students, and was known for being so sweet and kind. On January 5, 2023, Barb and Larry celebrated their 60th anniversary. Their children and grandchildren hosted a party for them in August, and Barb and Larry thoroughly enjoyed seeing so many friends and family. Those who knew Barb were aware of her kind and gentle spirit. She had a deep unwavering faith, and she wanted to see others accept Christ as their savior. Her family will always re-"

"member her as their prayer warrior. Barb endured pain and suffering from her many back surgeries throughout the years, but she always put on a smile. She always said tomorrow will probably be a better day.
Barb is survived by her husband, Larry of Buffalo Center; her children, Cindy (Randy) Meinders of Sioux Falls, SD, and Todd of Fairfield; her grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher (Alexandrea) and Samuel Meinders, Jordan (Mia) Weaver and Autumn (Gabe) Umbarger; and her great grandchildren, Ella & Emery Meinders, and Cora & Judah Meinders. She is also survived by her sisters, Jan (Dave) Kiewiet, Bev (Al) Murra; and sister-in-law, Marlys Abels. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Dave and Don; and a sister-in-law, Jane Abels.
