Dorothy May Giesking, 84, of Titonka, passed away Friday Feb. 20, 2015 at Valley Baptist Hospital in Harlingen, Texas. Her funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Titonka,with Pastor S. Kim Peterson and Pastor Trudy A. Peterson officiating. Visitations will be at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Titonka from 4 - 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, and on Saturday at 10 a.m.in the church prior to the service.
Dorothy May Giesking was born on Nov. 21, 1930 in Titonka, Iowa to Peter and Johanna (Rippentrop) Ubben. Along with her six siblings, Dorothy grew up on the Ubben family farm in rural Titonka. Her formal education began at the GermanValley country school and continued at Titonka High School where she graduated from in 1948.
Little did Dorothy know that meeting a handsome young man while roller skating in Titonka on a summer Saturday night would change her life forever.
That handsome young man, Butch, thought Dorothy was a beautiful young woman and continued to court and romance her for the next 67 years, celebrating 64 wedding anniversaries. Dorothy was married to Carl "Butch" Giesking, Jr. at RamseyReformed Church of rural Titonka on Nov. 24, 1950.
Residing on the Giesking's home farm in rural Titonka until September 2008, when they moved to their current home in Titonka, Dorothy and Butch enjoyed raising four children and attending their many activities. Dorothy lived a busy andloving life as a farm wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, roller skating, bowling, square dancing, fishing when the fish were biting, traveling, attending sporting events, neighborhood picnics, Ubben and Gieskinggatherings, and 16 years of snow-birding to Texas.
Being a devoted child of God, Dorothy was active in WELCA throughout her adult life, including being secretary for Immanuel for about 10 years. Along with her loving husband, those that lit her face with joy and brought out that fiestyside of her personality were her beloved children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, close Titonka area friends, and her winter Texas friends.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Butch; children Donavon (Teri) of Hesperia, CA; Bonnie Giesking (Gary) Williams of Ankeny, IA; Jolene Cox of Seattle, WA; and Diane (Dave) Del Santro of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren: Stephanie(Scott), Stacy (Chad), Christa (Neil), Elizabeth, Diana (Jimmy), Melissa (Justin), Rebecca, Jeff (Katie), Mackenzie, Emily, Taylor and great grandchildren: Brandon, Nick, Megan, Kaleb, Wesley, Spencer, Grant, Hailey, Jack, Zeke, Lilith,Taylor, Hunter, Luke, Sophia, Ali, Matthew and many nephews, nieces, grand nephews and nieces and great-grand nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Ubbe, John, Evert, and Herman Ubben; sisters: GraceSmidt, Marie Murra, daughter-in-law Kathy Giesking and son-in-law Murl Cox.
