DIED A RIPE AGE

Ubbe Ubben was born in Eastfriesland, Germany, on the 14th of August, 1848. He made his home in the old country for 34 years. It was there that he wed Grietje Kuper in 1876. Several of the children were born in Germany. In 1882 Mr.Ubben, taking his family, migrated to America. For twenty years he lived in Butler and Grundy counties, Iowa where he had many friends. In 1902 while German township was yet mostly swamp, he moved his family to the neighborhood. Morethan once during the early years in this township he would have been glad to move back to Grundy or Butler county had he been able to get sufficient funds to do so. But the Lord prospered him and his family.

In 1905 he became a member of the Ramsey Reformed Church and a few years later was elected Elder and also secretary of the Consistory. He kept these offices for 18 years. After that the weaknesses of age began to show and herelinguished his positions. During the past winter his health started failing, first slowly then more repidly. He died of complications on the 26th of April, 1935. Thus he reached the ripe old age of 86 years, 8 months and 12 days.

Ubbe Ubbben had eight children. His wife died in 1914; five of his children also preceded him in death: Mrs. Klass Harken, Mrs. Dick Heyes Evert Ubben, Mrs. Ted DeBoer and a child which died in infancy.

Remaining to mourn the departed are Herman, Fred and Peter, his three sons all living in this community, 15 grand children, 3 great grand children, many other relatives and a host of friends."
