Rites Held for Mrs Lucy-Ubben Heyes

For the third time within seven months the hand of death has laid hold of some member of the Heyes family. September 21st it was the father, Mr. Dick Heyes; March 22 it was the grandfather, Mr. Ben Heyes Sr., and now on April 28 it was Mrs. Dick Heyes, the Mother. About two weeks ago Mrs. Hayes was stricken with gall bladder trouble, however after about a week of suffering she seemed to get over the first attack. She attended church on April 22. but last Thursday she again became sick. Intense pain and suffering held her in its grip for two days. Then on Saturday, late in the afternoon she died. Mrs. Dick Heyes, nee Lucy Ubben, was born in Ostfriesland, Germany on March 6, 1880. She came toAmerica when but a small child. She spent her early years in Butler county. On the 21st of February, 1900, she was married to Dick Heyes. Six children were born to this union: Ubbe, Isena, Eizo, Ben, Grace and Anna Ruth. Both the husband and one child, Isena, preceded the mother in death. She leaves behind to lament her going, her five living children, her old father Mr. Ubbe Ubben Sr., and three brothers: Herman Fred and Peter Ubben, besides other relatives anda host of friends. Three children remain at home: Eizo, Grace and Ruth. Upon them now falls the responsibility of carrying on the traditions of the family.

The funeral took place on Tuesday at 12 o'clock from the home and then directly to the Ramsay Reformed Church. Many, many friends attended to pay their last respect to the dead. The services were in charge of the local pastor, Rev.Calvin Schnucker. Mrs. Heyes had been a member of this church since Jan. 15, 1908."
