"EDWIN AND PAT (HIGGINS) ALBERS

A little over a year after their marriage in 1946, Edwin and Pat Albers moved into the house they still live in. It is one of the older houses in Buffalo Center, being build in 1903, according to the deed. In the spring of 1948 thehouse was raised and a basement was put under the house. The front and back entry were enclosed, a bathroom and water were put in. In 1970 the house was completely remodeled inside.

Edwin graduated from Buffalo Center high school and entered the Navy in 1943. He served in the South Pacific until he was discharged in 1946. He worked for his parents driving the milk route and helping with the cornsheller until 1968when he decided to do electrical work.

Their family is Linda, who graduated from Buffalo Center high school, went to cosmetology school, married, had four children, and then went back to school. She graduated from Buena Vista in 1988 with a degree in elementary education andis now teaching school. Michael, who graduated from Buffalo Center high school, attended Coe College and after graduation entered the Navy. He was married while in service and he and his wife live in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Pat Albers' grandparents, Patrick and Julie Higgins, and their family, including Pat's father, Joe, lived in Buffalo Center for several years. Her father enlisted in the Army in World War I from here. Her grandfather had a liverystable. Both grandparents are buried in the Buffalo Center cemetery."

"Edwin V. Albers, 74

Funeral mass for Edwin V. Alters, 74, were held Monday, September 20, 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Craig Steimel officiating. Graveside military rites were conducted by 'Buffalo Center VFW-Anierican LegionColor Guard. Interment was at Gtaceland Cemetery with Winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Organist was Lee Ann Raulie. Honorary casketbearers were Jake Larsen, Tanner Larsen, Cade Gaskill, Dylan Adams and Dalton Adams. Casketbearers were Victor Garry, Paul Adams, Ande Klapperich and Jay Gaskill.

Edwin Vemon Albers was born August 11, 1925 in Buffalo Center, son of Theodore and Elizabeth (Roth) Albers. He married Patricia Higgins on August 1, 1946 in West Bend.

He served in the Navy during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He then drove truck for his father Until 1965, when he became a self-employed electrician. He worked until 1994 when he retired because of illness. He wasdiagnosed with Picks Disease and has resided at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown since 1995.

Ed passed away on Thursday, September 16, 1999 at the Iowa Veterans Home.

He is survived by two children: Linda Steinberg of LeRoy, Minnesota; Mike Albers and his wife, Linda, of Cordova, Tennessee; four granddaughters: Brenda Larsen and her fiance*, Jay Gaskill of Adams, Minnesota; Tricia Garry and herhusband, Victor, of Mason City; Diane Adams and her husband, Paul, of Thompson; Mindy Steinberg and her special friend, Ande Klapperich of Mason City; five great-grandsons: Jake and Tanner Larsen of Adams, Minnesota; Cade Gaskill ofAdams, Minnesota; Dylan and Dalton Adams of Thompson; three brothers: Gerald Albers and his wife, Sally of Janesville, Wisconsin; Don Albers and his wife, Marilyn, of Bloomfield, Colorado; Dennis Albers and his wife, Jo, of Albia; twosisters: Arlene Field and her husband, Roger, of Ankeny; Gladys Sheldon of Clear Lake and by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Patricia, in 1997, one brother, Merrill, and one sister, Dorothy Rooster." <>
