Simon Sunken was born on July 3, 1915, on a farm near Titonka, to Henry and Christine Bergman Sunken. ... He was married to Gertrude Boekelman on January 12, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple returned to the familyfarm and farmed there until 1984, when Simon and Gertrude retired. They continued living on the farm after retirement. ... Simon died on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka. He was 92.

"Gertrude Marie Sunken Aug. 10, 1921 - March 24, 2013

Funeral services for Gertrude Marie Sunken, 91, were held Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of titonka with Rev. Todd Hartsock officiating. Intment folled at Buffalo Township Cemetery in Titonka.

Gertrude Marie Sunken was born Aug. 10, 1921, in German Township near Titonka, to John and Maggie (Rippentrop) Boekelman.

She was schooled in German Township and married Simon Sunken on Jan. 12, 1950 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Gertrude was a homemaker as well as worked for neighboring families. She enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, embroidery and crocheting. She also enjoyed going to auctions and working in her vegetable and flower gardens. Gertrude was amember of the United Methodist Church in Titonka as well as the United Methodist Women and the Methodist Quilting group.

Gertrude died at the Franklin County Hospital in Hampton on Sunday Afternoon, March 24, 2013, at the age of 91. Survivors include her son: Kevin Sunken and his friend, Cheryl Straughn, of Chapin; and granddaughter, Kaitlyn Crandall; andtwo sisters-in-law, Lois and Audrey Boekelman, both of Titonka.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Simon; brothers; Joe, Robert and Heiko Boekelman; sisters: Martha Beenken and Marie Boekelman, and brother-in-law, Ralph Harms.
