"Mr. Simon Sunken 1915-2008

Simon Sunken was born on July 3, 1915, on a farm near Titonka, to Henry and Christine Bergman Sunken. He received his education in the German Township #9 School northwest of Titonka. After his schooling, Simon helped his parents on thefarm. Simon served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, serving in Italy and North Africa. He was married to Gertrude Boekelman on January 12, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple returned to the family farmand farmed there until 1984, when Simon and Gertrude retired. They continued living on the farm after retirement.

Simon was a member of the Titonka United Methodist Church. He also belonged to the William F. Kennedy V.F.W. Post # 4071 in Titonka. He enjoyed farming, not only as an occupation, but as a hobby. He also enjoyed going to auctions and fleamarkets, gardening, collecting miniature John Deere tractors and keychains and going out to different places to eat.

Simon died on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka. He was 92.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude of Titonka, his son, Kevin Sunken and his special friend, Cheryl Straughn, Chapin, and his sister, Lena Harms, Titonka. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Simon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law, Ralph Harms and Joe, Heiko and Robert Boekelman, sisters-in-law, Martha Beenken and Marie Boekelman." <>
