'Heiko Boekelman March 17, 1915 - October 30, 2000

Titonka - Funeral service for Heiko Boekelman of Titonka will be held at 11 a.m. today. Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000 in the United Methodist Church at Titonka with the Rev. Timm Wilkin officiating. Interment will be in the Riverside Cemeteryat Blue Earth NN. at 2 p.m., the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home of Titonka in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers are Harley Beenken, Calvin Boekelman, Norm Cooper, Doug Phelps, Robert Van Hove and David Boeckholt, Honarary bearers are Morris Isebrand, Albert (Bo) Sleper, Ben Buss and George Uken.

Heiko Boekelman became a resident of the Titonka Care Center Oct. 9, 2000 and he died there Monday, Oct. 30, (2000), at the age of 85.

The son of John and Maggie Rippentrop Boekelman, Heiko Boekelman was born March 17, 1915 near Titonka. He received his early education in the German Valley Country School and then graduated from the Titonka High School in 1935 where heexcelled in baseball and basketball. After his schooling, he farmed with his parents northeast of Titonka, and on March 3, 1947, he was married to Fern Johnson in the Trinity Lutheran Chruch at Blue Earth, MN

The couple farmed northwest of Titonka for two years and then moved northeast of Titonka where they farmed for 30 years. In 1980, Heiko and Fern built a new home east of their former home and retired.

He was an active member of the Titonka United Methodist Church where he had been chairman of the trustees, chairman of the ushers, lay leader, and had served on many other committees. Also, he was a charter member of the North Iowa WoodCarvers Guild and belonged to the Titonka Senior Citizens. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, growing flowers and planting trees and shrubs. He enjoyed playing cards, and when younger, softball, baseball and square dancing. Thecouple traveled extensively after retirement, but his greatest joy in life was his family.

Survivors are his wife, Fern, rural Titonka; his children and their families, Ron and Sandi Boekelman and Brandon of Albert Lea, MN; and Barbara and Don Malinsky and Julie of Albert Lea, MN. Other survivors are a brother, RobertBoekelman; a sister, Gertrude, Mrs. Simon Sunken; and a sister-in-law, Lois Boekelman, all of Titonka.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Marie Boekelman and Martha Beenken; and a brother, Joe Boekelman.'
