TITONKA - Fern J. Boekelman, 91, of Titonka, died Monday at Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft. A funeral Service for Fern J. Boekelman will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Titonka withPastor Todd Hartsock officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth, Minn. Oakcrest Funeral Services of Titonka in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.oakcrestfuneralservices.com."

"Fern Boekelman January 23, 1921 - March 12, 2012

Fern Janett Boekelman was born January 23, 1921 in Blue Earth, Minnesota, the youngest of six girls of Joseph A. and Sena (Roe) Johnson. She grew up in Blue Earth graduating from Blue Earth High School in 1939. Prior to marriage sheworked at the Blue Earth Creamery and a local bank.

Fern was united in marriage to Heiko Boekelman on March 3, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, MN. The couple farmed west of Titonka for two years and then moved northeast of Titonka and farmed there for 30 years. Fern workedpart time for several years at the Union Slough Wildlife Refuge. In 1980, they built a new home east of their former home and retired from farming.

Fern and Heiko traveled extensively following retirement. She took pride in caring for her acreage, gardening, and raising flowers. She enjoyed bird watching and music, especially playing the violin. She an active member of the TitonkaUnited Methodist Church. Fern also belonged to the Federated Club, the Friends of the Library, the Christian Women, and the Neighborhood Birthday Club.

Fern J. Boekelman died Monday, March 12, 2012 at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bancroft at the age of 91. She had been a resident there since November, 2010.

She is survived by two children, Ron Boekelman and his wife Sandi of Albert Lea, MN, and Barbara Malinsky and her husband Pastor Don of Buffalo Lake, MN; two grandchildren, Brandon Boekelman of Seattle, WA and Julie Eaton and her husbandDr. Jeff Eaton of Albert Lea, MN; two great-grandchildren, Jaycie and Brityn Eaton of Albert Lea, MN. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Heiko on October 30, 2000; and five sisters." <>
