Esther Mae Mayland was born August 25, 1959 in Britt, the daughter of Walbert Mayland Sr. and Caroline Meyer
Mayland. She graduated from Britt High School. On September 23,1995 she married Robert J. Shannon at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover. Esther worked at Mrs. Mom's Restaurant and Faith, Hope and Charity in Storm Lake and at Avon's Restaurant in Alta.

She and her husband raised quarter and paint horses and were members of the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. Esther enjoyed growing flowers and caring for her cats.

Esther was preceded in death by her grandparents, two sisters, Mary Ella and Carol Ann Mayland, an infant sister, and by her father-in-law Harold Shannon.
