*Titonka, Iowa, 3 Juni Ferner wurde in tiefe Trauer verletzt die Familie Fr. MAYLAND und Frau geb. BRUNS. Die Eltern waren am Nachmittag mit den Kindern zu einem Schulpicknick gewesen; wie sie am Abend heim kamen und die Mutter im Kellerbeschäftigt ist, nimmt die 7 Jahre alter Tochter die Petroleumkanne, um im Ofen Feuer anzumachen, um nach Kinderart der Mutter zu helfen Dabei haben ihre Kleider Feuer gefangen und ehe noch Hilfe zur Stelle war, hatte es sich bereits soverbrannt, daß es in der folgenden Nacht gestorben ist. Solche Verluste treffen schwer, doch müssen wir uns dem Willen des Herrn geugen. die Beerdigung fand statt unter sehr großer Beteiligung durch Pastor Kilian van der luth. Kircheöstlich von Titonka aus. Lyon Co. Iowa. Dick J. KRUSE und Frau reisten nach Woden, Iowa, zur Beerdigung einer 12 Jahre alten Nichte, Tochter von Fred MAYLAND.'

Britt: Services for Mrs. Fred Mayland, 79, widely known resident were held Monday, Dec. 24 in the First Lutheran Church, Britt. Mrs. Mayland was taken to the church at 11:30 to be in state until service time from the Boughton FuneralHome, where relatives and friends had made visitation.

Donna Tech was organist and the singers were David Tegtmeyer and Brenda Hanson. The casket bearers were grandsons, William, James and Edwin Gremmer, Daryl Beenken, Larry Wilson, Walbert, Roger, Rikcy [sic], Keith and Stanley Mayland,Marvin, John Schutter, and Michael Wilson. Mrs. Mayland was laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Etta Bruns, daughter of Bruno and Engelena (Troff) Bruns was born August 3, 1894 in Osterfreisland, Germany. She received baptism in infancy and was confirmed. Her first education ws received in her native land, and she came to Americato the Titonka-Woden area at the age of 12 where she grew to womanhood.

On January 13, 1915, she was united in marriage to Fred Mayland. the couple established their home on a farm near German Valley. They were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church. The home was blessed with seven sons and five daughters,William, Ernest, Donald, Herman, Walbert, Ben, Lewis, Engelen, Helen, Jeanette, Erlene and Marie.

Several years ago Mr. and Mrs. Mayland moved to Britt and he was employed for many years with the Mason City Brick and Tile Co. as well as doing carpenter work before retirement. She had been in ill health for the pas several months, andearly Friday morning slept away at the Memorial Hospital, Britt.

She is survived by her husband, her children, Herman of Titonka; Walbert of Britt; Helen and Henry Gremmer, Woden; Mrs. Jeanette Gremmer, Britt; Ben of Clear Lake; Lewis of Britt; Erlene and her husband Franklin Schutter, Titonka; Marieand her husband John Wilson, Britt. 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, 5 sisters and 3 brother also survive."
