"Last Rites Held Thursday for Bruno Bruns

Funeral services for Bruno Bruns were held Thursday afteroon, November 10, at the Winter Funeral Home followed with services at the First Reformed Church by the Rev. Henry Van Dyke. Burial took place at the Oiena Mound cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Vernon Stohr, Roger Harringa, Raymond Bruns, Joe Korte, Lewis Mayand, Ben Mayland.

Bruno Bruns son of Walbert and Margaret Bruns, was bom February 24, 1868, at East Friesand Germany. He was baptized in infancy and confirmed in his youth.

On April 21, 1894 he was united in marriage to Englena Troff. This union was blessed with ten children, of these one daughter, Johanna preceded him in death in 1948. The others, all living nearby, were able to give him much help and comfort in his declining years.

In the year 1903, they emigrated to this country making their home in the vicinity of Bufalo Center and Titonka, Iowa. From there they moved to the Woden community where he was engaged in farming for seventeen years, then moving to afarm near Buffalo Center.

In 1943, he, with his wife Engelina retired to his home in Bufalo Center. After eight years of retirement, his loving wife and helpmate passed away on Nov. 26, 1951 thus leaving him alone. When his health began to fail he made his homewith several of his children spending the last year at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Korte.

Mr. Bruns had enjoyed excellent health until the past two years when it began to fail and he spent many days in the local hospital.

On Oct. 10, he was again taken to the hospital where everything human hands could do was done for his comfort and on Monday morning Nov. 7, at 7:15 o'clock he quietly and peacefully departed this life at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and14 days. He leaves to mourn his passing his nine children: Etta (Mrs. Fred Mayand), Britt; Jennie (Mrs. John Korte), Buffalo Center; Walbert, Britt; Lena (Mrs. John Harringa), Britt; Gertie (Mrs. Henry Stohr), Woden; Bruno, Titonka; Grace(Mrs. Edward Stohr), Woden; John, Lake Mills; Tressie (Mrs Dick Beenken), Titonka. There are also 30 grandchildren 20 great grandchildren and also a few other relatives and a host of friends." <>
