'Francis L. and Anna Mae Johnke Family

'Francis L. Johnke (Fritz) was born on a farm home to Frank J. Johnke and Talka Groen Johnke on Oct. 7, 1912. He joined a brother, William, who is now deceased. His younger brother is Harold F. Johnke.

Talka passed away in May of 1920 and later on Frank married Louise Bultena. He built a new home on Section 20 97-51. Frank and Louise had a daughter, Sarah Ann, now Mrs. Horold Poppens. Frank continued farming but preferredconstruction and carpentry.

Francis took over the farming. He married anna Mae Frinkman in December of 1937. Anna Mae was the daughter of Clayton (Monte) and Annie Frinkman of Brooklyn Township. Anna Mae was born in Beresford, on Feb. 10, 1912. She taught theschools of Mt. Hope and Joy in Lincoln County. After she and Francis were married, they lived on a little farm south of Francis's [sic] parents. This place is now bare land and owned by Landsmans. However, William, Herman, Orville, andLowell Johnke have lived there.

Frank, Louise, and Sarah Ann moved into Lennox and Francis and Anna Mae bought the home place. They lived there 38 years. Francis farmed, did custom machine work, carpenter work, was a member of the Rose Cottage School board, was on theDelaware Township board, Dakota Sunshine 4-H Club leader, chairman of the Lincoln County A.S.C.S., Chapter Father of the Centerville Future Farmers of America, and he and Anna Mae had offices in the United Ebenezer Presbyterian Church ofLennox.

Children of the union are Jares R. Johnke of Prior Lake, Minn., construction worker; Frank C. Johnke, Bloomington, Minn., assistant pastor at Oak Grove Church; Leroy E. Johnke, Centerville, A.S.C.S. Director; Loretta A. Trenerry, Davis,S.D., teacher in Hurley, S.D.; Susan L. Forbes, teacher in Whiting, Iowa; and Dix F. Johnke, farmer on the home place and custom machine worker.

Francis passed away on Sept. 27, 1973, Anna Mae later married Herman Buisenga, lives in Lennox, and is active in volunteer work of Senior Citizens, Good Samaritan work, and Auxiliary Post #174. She and Herman are members of the UnitedEbenezer Presbyterian Church. She and Herman live at 220 E. 6th. Herman has a daughter, Myra Rae (Mrs. Dennis Dalziel), of Frazee, Minn.'
