"John W. and Brydell Groen Family

John W. Groen was born on a farm southwest of Lennox, [SD] the only child of Peter and Ella Groen. He received most of his schooling in Lennox, as his parents moved to town when he was seven.

He attended college in Pella, Iowa, and began farming with his father in 1930. He was married to Byrdell Meier in 1932 at her parent's [sic] home. They farmed southeast of Lennox during the depression years and until 1949, when theymoved to Lennox.

John built the building in Lennox on Highway #17 which is now owned by Cenex. Here he sold gas, cars, and farm machinery. Later he operated semi-trailer trucks, hauling feed and grain to Minneapolis and Duluth. At this time hepurchased the Cammack building on North Main Street.

John and Byrdell had four children: Norma (Mrs lester Goeman), Lennox; JoAnn (Mrs. Ronald Hoffman), St. Paul, Minn.; and Gene of Mankato, Minn. One child, Joh Richard, died in infancy.

The family lived at 321 West Elm until they retired. They built their present home at Second and Garfield.

Jack and Burdell enjoy trailering and spend the cold winter months in the south."
