Services were held Friday, Aug. 4, 2006 at Lennox for Byrdell Groen, who, having been in declining health, died at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center early Tuesday morning, Aug. 1, 2006. She attained the age of 93 years, two months and 12 days.

Byrdell M. Meier was born southeast of Chancellor, SD on May 19, 1913 the daughter of George A. and Matilda (Dirksen) Meier. She attended Ashlawn School, District #89 and then graduated from Lennox High School in 1931.

On Jan. 20, 1932 she was united in marriage to John W. "Jack" Groen at her parental home west of Lennox.

Following their marriage they lived on a farm south of Lennox and moved into Lennox in 1947 where she had since lived. She was the bookkeeper in Jack's business for many years. He preceded her in death on Oct. 31, 1991, ending a marriage of nearly 60 years. In later years she had been a resident of Hilda's Heritage Home and then at the Lennox Good Samaritan Center.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one infant son, one son-in-law, Les Goeman: one brother, Conrad Meier and one sister, Delores Bellach.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Gene Groen and his wife, Pauline, of Madison Lake, MN; her daughters: Norma Goeman-Sayler and her husband, Kenneth of Lennox and JoAnn Hoffman and her husband, Rondal, of Hutchinson, MN; ten grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister; Audrey Vietor and her husband, H. George of Chancellor; brother-in-law, Neil Bellach of Fresno, CA; sister-in-law, Berdena Meier of Chancellor, SD.
