Notes about Jan Hubert "Sjeng" Gerits

Kort na zijn 25-jarig dienstjubileum op de Staatsmijn Emma werd Sjeng afgekeurd. Vanaf die tijd wijdde hij zich volledig aan zijn hobby's: kaarten, wandelen en vrijwilligerswerk voor de voetbalvereniging RKVV-Vaesrade en de kienvereniging Vaesrade. De laatste twee jaar van zijn leven werd zijn gezondheid steeds slechter. Zeer plotseling ging hij geestelijk en daarna lichamelijk achteruit, zodat hij opgenomen moest worden in het verzorgingstehuis Leontine in Amstenrade; alwaar hij na één jaar verblijf, vredig en kalm is overleden.
