Funeral services for John Dirks were held April 25 at United Methodist Church in Ocheyedan Rev. Gordon Vickery officiated. Burial was in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery with Walton Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. He died April 22 at the age of 92.

John Dirks was born July 4, 1893 in Hardin County, Iowa to John and Peterka (Moet) Dirks. They moved to Allendorf when he was three years old. On November 14, 1917 he married Lillian Stevens at Rushmore, MN. He farmed and was a carpenter until 1953 when they moved to Ocheyedan where he continued carpentry.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church at Ocheyedan and was active in the Methodist Church in Allendorf before moving to Ocheyedan. He was also active in Cub Scouts.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Clarence and Lawrence, both of Ocheyedan, seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Ida Jacobs and Grace Molendorp, both of Sibley, and one brother, Claus of Sibley.

He was preceded in death by two sons Alvin and John, two sisters, Lucy Schipper and anna Heetland, and three brothers: Cassen, Jake and Ted.
