"John and Gladys Wiebers Family

John Wiebers was born in 1920 in Lincoln County, son of Theodor and Remda Wiebers. He attended Pleasant View School District 31, and he farmed with his parents. On May 23, 1946, he married Gladys Smit.

Gladys Smit was born Nov. 29, 1925, daughter of Henry and Rena Smit. She attended a rural school and graduated from Lennox High School. She went to school in Springfield and after that taught for several years in rural schools.

After they were married they farmed in Delaware Township, northwest quarter of Section 14 for seven years, then moving to the home place, southwest quarter of Section 10.

John was clerk of Pleasant View School for 21 years, and for many years the teachers stayed in their home.

John was supervisor on the Delaware Township board for many years.

They are active members of the Delaware Reformed Church. John is presently serving on the consistory and Gladys has had offices in the R.C.W. and Sunday school.

They have four children: Orville is married to Corliss Schoffelman and works for Republic Airlines. Sharon is married to Larry Bruns and works for the Exchange Insurance Agency. Beverly is married to Brad Winterboer and is working at Lennox Equipment. Janice is married to Dave Tipton and works in the business office at Sioux Valley Hospital.

They also have nine grandchildren.

The entire family has been very active in 4-H. John and Gladys both serving as leaders for 20 years.

In 1981 they moved to their home at 308 S. Main in Lennox.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 6 at Delaware Reformed Church in Lennox for John 'Jack' Wiebers who died unexpectedly in his sleep while vacationing in Branson, Missouri on Friday, Dec. 2, 2005. He attained the age of 84 years, eleven months and 24 days.

Officiating during the service was the Rev. Aaron Anderson. Ruth Beck was organist. Derek Winterboer and Verlyn Schmidt were vocalist.

Honorary pallbearers were Rhonda Wiebers, Kristi Wiebers, Holly Wiebers, Tammy Adney, Lynnette Vargas, Janell Horner, Amy Mattheis, Nicole Winterboer, Beth Brynjulson, and Macy Tipton.

Casketbearers were Robbie Sweeter, Kevin Adney, Salomon Vargas, Korey Horner, Michael Mattheis, Derek Winterboer, Eric Brynjulson, Jared Winterboer, and Tanner Tipton.

Interment was held in the Lennox Cemetery.

John 'Jack' Theodor Wiebers was born on a farm in Lincoln County, SD on Dec. 8, 1920, the son of Theodor and Remda (Groen) Wiebers. He attended Pleasant View District # 31 rural school and grew up in that area.

On May 23, 1946 he was united in marriage to Gladys Smit at the Second Reformed parsonage in Lennox. Following their marriage they farmed south of Lennox and moved to the home farm in 1955. They moved into Lennox in 1981, and he was actively involved with farming his entire life. His death ended a marriage of nearly 60 years.

Jack was an active and faithful member of Delaware Reformed Church where he held several offices on the church consistory and served on the building committee when the new church was built. He also served on the Pleasant View School Board, the Delaware Township Board the Lennox Co-op Board and was a 4-H leader for several years. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Canton Sales Barn, watching the local church league softball games and the different activities of his grandchildren. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. He also enjoyed his collection of antique cars and tractors and attended many car shows.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1953; his mother in 1978; one granddaughter, Lacey Tipton, in 1988; sister, Doris Wiebers; brother, Peter W. Wiebers; and brother-in-law, Carl Rust.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Gladys; his son, Orville (Corliss) Wiebers of Lennox; his three daughters: Sharon (Larry) Bruns of Centerville, Beverly (Bradley) Winterboer of Chancellor and Janice (David) Tipton of Lennox; 12 grandchildren and their spouses (honorary pallbearers and casketbearers) and five great-grandchildren: Andrew, Grant and Corissa Sweeter and Jadee and Preston Mattheis; plus other relatives and a host of friends.
