"David A. Heitland, 69

David A. Heitland, 69, of Lake Mills, IA, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills. A memorial service was held on May 20 at Asbury United Mehtodist Church in Lake Mills, with Pastor Jerry Robertson officiating.

David Aldean Heitland was born on August 21, 1941, in Thompson, IA, to parents Edward and Marion (Smith) Heitland. He attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in Buffalo Center with the class of 1959.

Following his schooling, Dave worked in Des Moines, IA, for Lehigh Cement until 1962, when he moved back to North Iowa. Dave was employed at Deluxe/Fleetguard Industries. At the time of his retirement, Dave had worked there for 33 years and was a plant supervisor.

On November 28, 2008, David was united in marriage with Gescha Berhow. The couple made their home in Lake Mills and always enjoyed the company of their family and friends.

David was an avid (and competitive) golfer, and he loved to watch the Hawkeyes and the Green Bay Packers play ball. Dave was very proud of his children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Gescha Heitland of Lake Mills; three children, Scott (Kim) Heitland of Cedar Rapids, IA, Shelly Simmons of Oklahoma City, OK, and Brad (Kandace) Heitland of Brooklyn Park, MN; three step-children, Cory (Emilie) Gregor of Des Moines, Dallas (Karen Ziegler) Gregor of Des Moines, and Andy Gregor of Britton, SD; and grandchildren, Trevor Heitland, Drew Heitland, Alisha Simmons, Khaila (Matt Stephens) Simmons, Elijah David Heitland (due July 4,2011), Gaven Gregor, Graysen Gregor, and Lucas Ziegler. Dave is also survived by his siblings, Shirley (Jerry) Higbee of Lake Mills, Donna (Allan) Gilbertson of Forest City, IA, and Paul (Jean) Heitland of Lake Mills; aunts and uncle,Dorothy Heitland of Buffalo Center and Bill (Elsie) Smith of Buffalo Center; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Marion Heitland; a wife, Betty Heitland; step-daughter, Dawn Lunning; and a brother and sister-in-law, James (Marilyn) Heitland
