'John and Hermina Smith to Celebrate 60th Anniversary

John and Hermina (Westendorf) Smith, 1033 19th St. SW, Mason City, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married August 2, 1945 in Forest City.

They have one son, Chief Warrant Officer 5 Mark (Barbara) Smith, US Army Military INtelligence Readiness Command, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; two grandchildren, Captain Nathan (Lori) Smith, US Army Beaumont Medical Center, Fort Bliss, Texasand Ryan Smith, Youth Minister, First United Methodist Church, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Hagen.

An open house is planned for them at Hermina's sister and brother-in-law's home, Bonna and Richard Matson 632 3rd NE, Mason City, IA; on Sunday, July 31 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.'

"John W. Smith, 85

John William Smith 85, of Mason City, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. Memorial services were held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Major Erickson Funeral Home, Mason City with theRev. Charles Westendorf officiating. According to his wishes, Jon was cremated, and inurnment will be held at a later date in the Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Memorials may be directed to the JohnSmith Memorial Fund.

John was born August 24, 1921 in Buffalo Center, the son of John W. and Grace (Dorenbusch) Smith. He was married to Hermina Westendorf on August 2, 1945 in Forest City. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II in Europe with the 4thInfantry Division, Field Artillery. John enjoyed traveling.

John is survived by his wife, Hermina Smith of Mason City; one son, Mark Smith and his wife, Barbara, of Fort Belvoir, Virginia; one brother, Billie Smith and his wife, Elsie, of Buffalo Center; one sister, Dorothy Heitland of BuffaloCenter; two grandsons, Nathan Smith and his wife, Lori, of Wray, Colorado and Ryan Smith of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three step-grandchildren, Jamie, Cory, and Andrea; three great-grandchildren, Morgan, Hagan, and Kaylan; twostep-great-grandchildren, Mae Francis and Samuel; two sisters-in-law, Bonna Matson and husband, Richard, of Mason City, and Tillie Sporaa of Aurora, Colorado; brother-in-law, Henry Westendorf of Rockford, IL. John was preceded in deathby his parents; and two sisters, Marian and Margaret." <>
