"MRS. WILLIAM SMITH DEAD

Passes Away Early Sunday Morning At An Advanced Age

Mrs. Wm. Smith passed quietly away at her home in the northeast part of town Sunday morning February 25, 1923 at 5:30 o'clock. The cause of her death was old age and a general wearing out of life's intricate machinery. She had beenailing for a good many years with asthma and was taken seriously ill about the first of January and gradually failed from that time until death relieved her of her terrible agony and suffering that she endured without a murmur. The endwas as peaceful as the close of a beautiful summer day, when daylight fades into night with increasing lovliness. While the silence of death wraps and chills us at this moment, memories, sweet and precious come crowding in. Anotherpioneer, who bravely bore the hardships and vicissitudes of life, has passed from our midst.

Gritje Smith, nee Albers was born March 23, 1840 in Weener, Ostfriesland, Germany and came to America, with her parents in 1878. In the year 1875 she was united in marriage with Wm. Smith; eight children were born to this union, six boysand two girls of which two boys died in infancy. In 1879 she came with her family to Kossuth county, Iowa and lived on a farm about seven miles southeast of town. In 1911 they moved to Buffalo Center and have been residents of this cityuntil she departed this life. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged broken hearted husband, four sons, two daughters, two sister, two brothers, other relatives and a host of friends. She reached the advanced age of 73 years, 11months and a few days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock from the Reformed church conducted by Rev. Schoon and was largely attended by sympathizing relatives and friends. Burial was made in Graceland cemetery.

The bereaved husband and children have the tenderest and sincerest sympathy of the entire community in their sad loss."
