'Alfred was next [8th] (that's me). Soon after graduating from high school I was drafted into the Armed Services and spent from June 1942 to October 1945 in the Army, spending time in Trinidad, St. Thomas, Puerto Rico, England andFrance. In March of 1946 I married Dorothy Smith, a sister of Marion (Ed's wife), and we were blessed with four children: three sons and a daughter. Our oldest son, Michael, was killed while a passenger in a one-car accident on July 13,1969 between his junior and senior year at Iowa State University. Tim, our next son, married Joyce Bierle of rural Buffalo Center, and we were blessed with two fine grandsons, Michael Alan II and Joshua. Then Jeffrey married DebOstermann of rural Buffalo Center, and we were blessed with more fine grandsons (four this time): Stephen, Jeremy, Seth and Shawn. Tim, Jeff and their families make their homes in Buffalo Center. Our youngest, Jorja, married Robert Timmon December 17, 1988; they have no children at this writing. Jorja and Bob live in rural Titonka, Iowa. I spent 20 years working at Winnebago Industries as warehouse manager, retiring on January 1, 1987 and continue to live in BuffaloCenter.'
