Funeral services for Betty J. Heitland, 49 of Lake Mills were held Wednesday, January 31 at 1:30 p.m. in the Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Interment was in the Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills. Rev Roger Dykstra officiated.She died Friday, January 26, 2001 in Indianapolis Indiana as a result of an automobile accident. Mittlestadt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jane Heitland, daughter of Ole and Inez (Wagner) Langfald was born April 8, 1951 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church. She graduated from Lake Mills High School class of 1969 and later receivedher bachelor of arts degree from Buena Vista College in accounting. On April 2, 1971, she was united in marriage to David Groe in Salem Lutheran Church. They were married for 25 years. She was very active in the community of Lake Millsserving on various boards and in clubs and organizations. She was active in politics both locally and statewide. She worked for Fleetguard for many years and was currently employed as a commodity manager for Donaldson Corporation. OnAugust 28, 1999, she was united in marriage to David Heitland in Galena, Illinois. She loved her family, taking walks, fishing and people.

She is survived by her husband, David Heitland, Lake Mills; her daughter, Angie, Memphis, Tennessee; her son Steven and his wife, Melissa Groe, Lake Mills; two grandchildren, Luke and Lexi Groe; stepsons, Scott Heitland, Cedar Rapids;Brad Heitland, Forest City; stepdaughter, Shelly Simmons, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four step-grandchildren, Drew and Trevor Heitland and Alisha and Kahlia Simmons; two brothers, Robert and his wife JoAnn, Langfald, Forest City; Ronald andhis wife, Ardis, Langfald, Forest City; one sister, Donna and her husband, Robert Anderson, Delano, Minnesota; her former mother-in-law, Ruth Groe, Lake Mills; and many other in-laws, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death byher parents.' <>
