William E. Wempen was born February 20, 1911 to Diedrich and Grace (Adams) Wempen at Buffalo Center. He had four brothers and two sisters. Bill moved to the Argonia community to work and make his home 50 years ago, as his Uncle Curly Wempen and his wife, Angie, and their family were already living in this area. He has nieces, nephews and cousins who live in the Argonia community.

Bill worked at Forrest Implement Company for at least 37 years. Farmers in the area first knew Bill when he started working with Dick Forrest and later for Richard Forrest. Bill became good friends with the Richard Forrest family and became an important adopted family member. Bill enjoyed reading and enjoyed studing scriptures. He also liked listening to music. Bill and Richard watched ball games together on television. Over the years he became quite a KU fan. We went to Emporia, Kansas the year the Argonia girls basketball team played at substate. He loved to watch Richard and Wanda's grandchildren play basketball.

Bill died Monday, September 20, 1999 at the Harper Hospital in Harper, Kansas. He is survived by his son, Raymond, of Noel, Missouri; three brothers, Amos and George, both of Buffalo Center, and Harry of Ashland, Oregon; a sister, Esther Grimes of Buffalo Center; special friends, Richard and Wanda Forrest of Argonia; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in the Buffalo Center area."
