The couple was united in marrriage July 22, 1946 at the Baptist Chruch in Blue Earth, MN. The past 65 years have been enriched with their children Duane (Trish) of Stratford, IA; Dale (Jan) of Fairmont, MN; Gene (Diane) of Humboldt, IA;Rod (LeAnn) of Luverne, IA; Diane"

George Wempen Sr.

George Wempen Sr., age 96, of Buffalo Center died Monday, May 26 at the Hancock Co. Memorial Hospital in Britt. Funeral services will be 3:00PM Thursday at First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Steve Ware officiating. Burial will be at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

George Albert Wempen, youngest son of Diedrich (Dick) and Grace (Adams) Wempen was born on August 20, 1917 on a farm north of Buffalo Center. He attended and graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1937.

On July 22, 1946, George was united in marriage to Irene Thompson in Blue Earth, MN. They were blessed with six children, Duane, Dale, Eugene, Rodney, Diane and George Jr. He loved his cows and milk check every 2 weeks. He loved farming with his orange machinery and enjoyed it very much. They moved to Buffalo Center in 1983 and he took up the hobby of woodworking. Family and friends were very important to him and he always had time for both; whether it wasvisiting, basketball games, fishing or going to church events. He received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at age 14 and then was baptized and became a member of the First Baptist Church. He attended the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center his entire life.

George is survived by his wife Irene of 67 years; their children, Duane and his wife Trish of Stratford, IA, Dale and his wife Janet of Fairmont, MN, Eugene and his wife Diane of Humboldt, Rodney and his wife LeAnn of LuVerne, Diane and her husband Gary Boyken of Titonka, and George Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Buffalo Center, 16 grandchildren, Chad, Ned, Kevin, Laurelee, Dave, Jody, Chad, Derek, Bradley, Ryan, Stephanie, Ashley, Abbi, Diedrich, Coy and step grandson Nathan, 28 great- grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews as well as extended family members and many friends.

George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Amos, William, Harry, sisters, Margaret Sonnenberg, Esther Grimes, and granddaughter Alicea Wempen.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials may be directed to KJLY Radio or Gideons International.
