Diedrich "Dick" Wempen was born on May 24, 1875 in Neuenburg, Germany, the son of John and Meta (Lubben) Wempen. While in Germany he worked in a factory where he lost two toes in an injury. As a young man in his early twenties, he cameacross the big water to America, in 1898.

On August 21, 1906 Dick married Grace Adams of Buffalo Center. Grace was born on March 6, 1883 in Grosmidlum, Germany, the daughter of Adam and Moederke (Westendorf) Adams. When she was about a year old the family moved to America.Dick and Grace made their first home near Little Rock, Iowa; in 1912 they moved with their children - Amos, Margaret, and William - to a farm in Winnebago County two and a half miles morth of Buffalo Center. ... ..."

A memorial service will be held 10 AM Monday May 28 at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Perry Aalgaard officiating. Burial will be at Olena Mound Cemetery." <>
