Diedrich "Dick" Wempen was born on May 24, 1875 in Neuenburg, Germany, the son of John and Meta (Lubben) Wempen. While in Germany he worked in a factory where he lost two toes in an injury. As a young man in his early twenties, he cameacross the big water to America, in 1898.

On August 21, 1906 Dick married Grace Adams of Buffalo Center. Grace was born on March 6, 1883 in Grosmidlum, Germany, the daughter of Adam and Moederke (Westendorf) Adams. When she was about a year old the family moved to America.Dick and Grace made their first home near Little Rock, Iowa; in 1912 they moved with their children - Amos, Margaret, and William - to a farm in Winnebago County two and a half miles morth of Buffalo Center. ... ..."

"David L. Grimes, Sr., 76 Funeral services for David Luther Grimes, Sr., 76, of Buffalo Center were held Monday, May 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. James Brygger officiating. Burial was in theOlena Mound Cemetery. Winter Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Casketbearers were Eugene Wempen, Richard Wempen, Ted Betels, Arthur Odgaard, Russell Sonnenberg, and Elmer Ricks. Mrs. Vera Bronleewe was the organist and music was by Wayne Bronleewe.

David Luther Grimes was born at Victor, Iowa on November 18, 1906 to Frank C. Grimes and Georgia Pink Grimes. As a small boy, he moved with his parents to the Buffalo Center area. David graduated from the Buffalo Center High School in1925 and attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City.

David L. Grimes and Esther Wempen were united in marriage on September 10, 1937 by Pastor Peter Peters. To this union were born three children, Dr. David Vance Grimes of Buffalo Ceter, Marvel Dell Burnell of Waterloo, and Mark Grimes ofWaterloo, Iowa. Dave and Esther farmed in the Buffalo Center area about thirty-five years. After retirement they moved into Buffalo Center in August, 1973.

David passed away on May 20, 1983 at the Blue Earth, Minnesota United Hospital at the age of 76 years, 6 months and 2 days.

Surviving are his wife, Esther; three children, David Vance, Marvel Dell, and Mark; three grandchildren, Kristin Grimes, Michael Swyter and Pamela Swyter; also by two sisters, Martha Budd, Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Harriet Norris,Jacksonville, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother." <>
