MAN FATALLY INJURED IN FALL AT HOME

Jay W. Phillabaum, 48, fell down the basement steps at his home, 331 South Ninth st., at 6:30 a.m. Sunday and died instantly from a fractured neck.

Coroner J. C. Briner, West Lafayette, ruled that death was accidental.

His body was found by his wife, Florence. She was in bed at the time of the accident.

Mr. Phillabaum apparently stumbled on the stairs on his way to the basement to unclog a stopped up drain.

He had been employed by the Burns Detective Agency and was a guard at Stone Container Corp. plant, North Fourth st.

He was born May 10, 1916, at Fresno, a son of the late Sophia Kutcher, and George Phillabaum, and was married Dec. 2, 1951, to Florence L. Cooper.

Also surviving are his father, Route 4; four brothers, Bert of Fresno, Clifford, Gail and Russell, all of Coshocton; two half-brothers, A. H. Phillabaum of West Lafayette and Rolan Luke of Canton, and three sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Durantand Mrs. Florence Johnson, both of Coshocton, and Mrs. Mary Alice Roof, Route 3. A sister and brother are deceased.

Mr. Phillabaum was a member of the VFW 2040, Moose and Eagles lodges, veteran of World War II, serving in the 422nd Infantry. He was awarded a Bronze Star.

Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Gibson and Bontrager funeral home by Rev. David Beebe. Burial will be in South Lawn cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and until time of services Wednesday.
