Note:

Max was in the US Marine Corps from 1951-1953, stationed at Los Alamos, NM. Before that he worked at the McFarland Dairy, and afterwards for 39 years at Dow Chemical in Midland, MI, where he was employed until his retirement in 1990. Maxwas a member of the American Legion Post #443 and the Midland Eagles Club.

Max divorced Martha on April 6, 1979 and was married to Pauline on June 29, 1979. Max and Pauline were both killed in a night-time fire in their house trailer in 2007. They were buried at Midland Memorial Gardens, Midland, MI.

Max and Pauline's obituary:

"Max R., 76, and Pauline (Ryan) Garver 75 of Midland both died early Tuesday morning, July 24, 2007 due to injuries sustained from a house fire. Max was born on January 7, 1931 in Clare, son of the late Walter and Hazel (Alwood) Garverand Pauline was born on September 22, 1931 in Jackson, daughter of the late Charles and Ida (Hicks) Ryan. Max served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1953 and married the former Pauline Squires on June 29, 1980. Pauline hadworked at various restaurants in the Midland area as a waitress and cook and had loved spending time with her family, sewing, baking and embroidery. Max was employed with The Dow Chemical Company, retiring in 1990 after 39 years ofservice. Max and Pauline were members of the Sanford American Legion Post #443 and the Midland Eagles Club.

Surviving are their children and their spouses, Jack Squires of Idaho, James Squires of Kansas, Myron Miller of Florida, Judy and Joe Vigil of Midland, Vicky Squires of Midland, Sandra and Jerry Church of Rhodes, Alberta and ChancyEberhart of Clare, Brian and Janice Garver, Brenda Garver all of Midland; by 33 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; Max's brothers and sisters, Forrest Garver of Clare, Fern Squires of Clare, Rex andCarrie Garver of Clare, Betty and Nial Abbott of Harrison, Donna and Norm Mosey of Harrison, Marlyn and David Smith of Monroe and Virginia and Clyde Haft of Milan. Members of Max and Pauline's family who predeceased are sons, John Garver,Steven and Kenneth Squires, daughter, Yvonne Garver; brothers and sisters, Doris Dalton, Charles, Wayne, Lester, Walter and Robert Garver, Harold Kenroy, Charles Ryan, Howard Ryan, Evelyn Bunker, Nellie Lorhke, Eva Thomas.

Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 27, 2007 from the Ware-Smith-Woolever Home, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor Judy Suderman of Bethel Church of Nazarene will officiate with burial in Midland Memorial Gardens.Max and Pauline's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and on Friday from 12:00 noon until time of Service. Full military honors will be present by the Midland area Veteran and the United StatesMarine Corps. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Midland Eagles Club. If you are unable to visit with the family in person you may send your condolences through www.waresmithwoolever.com."
