Note:

Doris was born in the house behind Warren C. Alwood's home. Many in the family recall that her father seemed to be not very fond of her, and they had constant arguments. She ran away when she was 18, and her sister Donna said, "It was thefirst time I ever saw our mother cry." Her husband, Lawrence, was said to be a drinker.

She had polio as a toddler ("infantile paralysis") which left one of her legs shorter and weaker than the other one. She used a walker and then a wheelchair as she grew older. She is buried in Vernon Twp. Cemetery, Isabella Co, MI.

Her obituary:

"Doris Irene Dalton of Clare died Wednesday, May 13, 1992 at the Clare Nursing Home. She was 72 years old. She was born March 7, 1914 in Arthur Township, Clare County to Watler Edward and Hazel (Alwood) Garver. She was united in marriageto Lawrence Dalton on March 27, 1933. Mr. Dalton preceded her in death in 1985. Doris was a lifelong resident of the Clare area. Mrs. Dalton was a member of the First Church of Christ of Gilmore. Doris is survived by one son, Norris ofClare; one daughter, Mrs. Carl (Barbara) Carr of Farwell; eight grandchildren, Julie, Dennis, Lisa, Kimberly, Sherrie, Gerald, David, and James; nine great-grandchildren; seven brothers, Charles Garver of Waterford, Forest Garver andWalter Garver of Farwell, Rex Garver of Clare, Lester Garver of Lake, Max Garver of Midland, and Robert Garver of Bellevue; five sisters, Fern Squires of Clare, Donna Mosey and Betty Abbott of Harrison, Virginia Haft of Milan, and Marilyn(sp) Smith of Monroe, and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Wayne Garver. Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 16, 1992 at 2 p.m. from the Coker Funeral Home, Farwell, withKenneth Filkins officiating, with burial in the Vernon Township Cemetery."
