Note:
Rex was born at his Aunt Ellen's place on Adams Road in Arthur Township, Clare County, MI. He and Carrie were married at the Browns Corners Church. He worked at a dairy, in Clare bottling milk, until he could take over the family farm. Hedied several weeks after being attacked by a bull on his farm and receiving extensive injuries. He was buried at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens, Mt. Pleasant, Isabella Co, MI.
The following was written by his daughter, Carrie, on her blog:
"In Honor of My Dad
On November 9, 2007, my Dad, Rex Roy Garver, passed from time to eternity. He was 74 years of age. A third generation farmer on the farm in Clare, Michigan, Dad spent his life doing what he loved; farming the land and managing a smalldairy herd. By today's standards, he shouldn't have been able to succeed. My earliest memories are of a dairy herd of a dozen or less cattle that included Holsteins, Jerseys and a Brown Swiss or two and, once or twice, cows of unknownheritage. Over the years, the herd expanded to about 30 and they supported a family of seven for all of my growing up years. My brother later added a milking parlor and increased herd size to 60 head, but it was still a small farm.
I do not ever remember being in need. There was always a variety of home-produced staples. Milk, eggs, meat, vegetables out of a large garden. There were hard times, to be sure, but there are also lots of happy memories.
Dad 'retired' nearly ten years ago and turned the farm over to my brother. But he never stopped being a farmer. He still enjoyed field work and helped with dairying and other chores as needed. He did enjoy not having to go to the barnevery day, twice a day 24/7, but many were the times he stood at the back door of the house
across the corner' and looked westward toward the farm. He is no longer looking back. Rather, we are all looking forward to that time when wewill join him. In the meantime, he will be missed.
Rex Roy Garver - May 22, 1933 to November 9, 2007"
