"Jennie Grothe, 95 Jennie Akkerman 'Cavett Grothe, 95, of Lake Mills, died Wednesday, August 30, 2006 at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 2, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in LakeMills, with Pastor Audrey Young officiating. Burial took place at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills was in charge of arrangements.

Jennie Akkerman Cavett Grothe, daughter of Oltman and Gertie (Smith) Akkerman, was born March 3, 1911 on a farm near Buffalo Center. As a young child whe was baptized by Rev. Alec Ressell in the First Congregational Church in BuffaloCenter. She attended country schools in the area. While growing up, she helped her dad in the field with horses and later worked in a grocery store in Stevens, Iowa.

On October 28, 1930, Jennie was united in marriage with Charles Cavett at her parents' home. This union was blessed with four children. In their early married years, the couple worked forfarmers in the Burt area. They went on to farmin the Thompson area in the 1940's and in 1949. Jennie and Charlie bought a lake shore farm in Osage, Minnesota, and moved there. In 1956, the family moved to Lake Mills, where they operated a car repair and welding shop and also alunch counter. Jennie was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She loved to camp, fish, and play bingo, and whe was a member of the Lake Mills Senior citizens Center.

Charles passed away on January 19, 1972, and on July 2, 1976, Jennie was wed to Joe Grothe. He passed away on April 2, 1986.

Jennie is survived by four children, Arla (Eugene) Erickson of Thompson, Gordon (Janet) Cavett of aLake Mills, Earl (Cheryl) Cavett of Lake Mills, and David "Butch" (Marlys) Cavett of Lake Mills; eight step-children, 14 grandchildren; 25great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Elvera Hansen and Grace Bosma, both of Buffalo Center; Lois Teigen of Kingman, AZ; a sister-in-law, Hazel Burns of Bismark, ND; a step-sister,Darlene Kincaid of Apopka, FL, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, grandson, Jim Cavett; a sister, Wilma Stewart; four brothers-in-law; her step-father; a step-sister; a step-brother; anda step-son, Joey Grothe." <>
