HBS Hilversum. Studie Geschiedenis aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Promoveerde tot doctor 21 mei 1935 op het proefschrift "The Netherlands and the United States. Their relations in the beginning of the 19th century". Was achtereenvolgens Assistent 1e klasse voor de economische geschiedenis, Universiteit van Amsterdam, waarnemend directeur van het Economisch-Historisch Archief te Amsterdam, en bibliothecaris van de Nederlandse Economische Hogeschool te Rotterdam. Ook secretaris van het genootschap Amstelodamum te Amsterdam. Auteur van tientallen boeken en artikelen; naast zuiver weten-schappelijk publicaties schreef hij ook werken van economisch-historisch belang zoals de geschiedenis van de Amsterdamse Kamer van Koophandel en van een aantal vooraanstaande industrieën.
