Advocaat en procureur te Amsterdam (Weteringschans 81 t.o. het Rijksmuseum en Keizersgracht 66). Godsdienst Waals, n.p. Om gezondheidsredenen (chronisch maaglijden) buiten gaan wonen, eerst enige tijd op Huize Vijverhof (circa 1900-1903) te Nieuwersluis, daarna (1903-1919) Huize Cromwijck (anno 1677) te Maarssen, Zandpad 42 (vroeger gemeente Maarsseveen). Werd kweker, was mede-oprichter van de groenteveiling te Utrecht. Actief in de Liberale Staatspartij, gemeenteraadslid te Maarsseveen. Kantonrechter-plaatsvervanger te Breukelen-Nijenrode. Gedelegeerd commissaris AVO, vennoot assurantiekantoor Westermann en Smithuysen (met zijn zwager F.A.M. Smithuysen). Verhuisde circa 1919 naar Huize Vegtwijck, Parkweg 43 te Maarssen. Maakte o.a. metrische vertalingen van Horatius' Oden, Epoden en Carmen Seculare, vertalingen van Lucretius' De Rerum Nature, Plato's Crito, Goethe's Faust (delen I en II) en heeft "Eenige fabels uit boek I" van La Fontaine metrisch vertaald. Schreef aforismen: "Flitsen en Spreuken". Medeoprichter (1912; o.a. samen met dr. A.M. Hartog, huisarts te Maarssen) van het Oudheidkundig Genootschap "Niftarlake", dat zich bezighoudt met het verspreiden van kennis van de Vechtstreek, en van de Historische Kring Maarssen. Verdienstelijk cellist en tekenaar. Zeilde op de Loosdrechtse plassen, bezat daar achtereenvolgens diverse eilanden met huisje in de trekgaten bij de jachthaven Manten.
