Notes about Elizabeth (Lizzie) Lammerts Moes

Elizabeth Moes was born in March 1883 in Vierhuizen in Ulrum, located in the extreem northwestern part of Groningen. She was the first child of Lammert Moes (44 years old, day-laborer) and Elizabeth Janna Kiel, who married in October 1882 at the village of Ulrum. On October 9, 1886 her brother Lammert Moes was born, in Vierhuizen too.

She arrived October 28, 1901 in New York, Ellis Island on the S.S. Potsdam. In October 1901 her father Lammert Moes (63 years old, Christian Reformed, day-laborer), mother Elisabeth Kiel (55), sister Martje (27), brother Lammert (12) and nephew Lammert (4) left home in Vierhuizen, municipality Ulrum for North America, following family members who did the same before. On October 28, 1901 they arrived on the S.S. Potsdam at the port of New York, Ellis Island.

On June 16, 1903 Elizabeth Moes married in Jasper County, Iowa the 10 years older Charles Dykstra widower of Mary J. Groover. In 1905 she was living with her husband Charley Dykstra (31, farmer), their daughter Jennie and her husband's parents at arented farm in rural Richland Township (postoffice Lynnville), located about 16 miles northeast of Pella and a few miles north of Lynnville and Sully, Jasper County, Iowa. In April 1910 Elizabeth (27 years old, born in Holland), her husband CharleyDykstra (36, Holland, farmer), their children Jennie (6, Iowa), Bert (5, Iowa), Cobe (3, Oklahoma), Clare (1, Iowa) and Dora (2 months, Iowa) were -still- living at a rented farm in rural Richland Township, Jasper County, Iowa. In 1915 the familyDykstra was living in Rock Creek Township, postoffice Turner, 10 miles north of the city of Sully, Jasper County, Iowa.

In January 1920 Elibeath (36), her husband Charles Dykstra (46, stock farmer), their children Jennie (16), Bert (15), Cobus (13, Iowa), Clara (11), Dora (10), Cyrus (8, Iowa), Elizabeth (5, Iowa) and David (3, Iowa) were still living in Rock Creek Township, Jasper County, Iowa. In April 1930 Elizabeth (46), her husband Chas Dykstra (56, farmer), their children Cye (18, farm laborer), Elizabeth (17), David (13) and Rose Ellen (7, Iowa) were living at a rented farm in Clear Creek Township, Iowa.

In April 1940 Elizabeth (55), her husband Chas Dykstra (66, farmer) and their son Bert (35, single, farmer) were living at a rented farm, worth $1500, in Center Township, Cedar County, located in the eastern part of Iowa. In 1935 they lived in CedarCounty too, but in another house, at a rural place. Right next to them their son David Dykstra (23, Iowa, farmer) and his wife Mildred (20, Iowa) were living, at a rented farm too, worth $300.

Elizabeth and her husband Charles Dykstra died both in 1943 at the age of about 70 resp. 69 years, likely in Cedar County, but they were buried at Sully, Jasper County, in the southern center of Iowa, in the same cemetery where Charles' parents andsister Jantje (Jennie) Dykstra Vos were buried.
