"Herman Gruis, Jr., 79

Funeral services for Herman Gruis Jr., 79, were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2006 in the First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Organist was Mariene Krull. Vocalist was Judy Junkemeier.the congregation also sang. Casketbearers were Don Gruis, Jason Gruis, Dean Gruis, Wayne Hormann, Dale Gruis and Jerry Thompson. Interment was in Olena Mound Cemetery with the Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center in charge ofarrangements. Herman died Friday, January 20, at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Herman Gruis, Jr. was born February 11, 1926 on the family farm south of Buffalo Center, Iowa to Herman Gruis, Sr. and Grace (Meinders Gruis. He was baptized and confirmed at the Ramsey Reformed Church near rural Titonka.

Herman was married March 17, 1947 to Dorothy Thompson. They moved to a farm south of Blue Earth, Minnesota where he worked on the Herman Rosenau farm. One year later, they moved to a farm south of Buffalo Center where they startingfarming in 1948. In 1966, Herman became a member of the First Reformed Church where he was an active member and served a term as an elder. Herman retired from the Gruis Century Farm in 1995, and worked for area farmers until 2005.

He is survived by Dorothy, his wife of 58 years; one daughter, Patricia Meyer, and her husband Roger, of Latimer; three sons, Donald Gruis and wife, Linda, of Buffalo Center; Dean Gruis and wife, Jeanne of Ankeny, Dale Gruis and wife,Dawn, of Indianola; five granddaughters, Jodi, Shari, Rhonda, Kelli and Jessica; four grandsons, Jason, Nathan, Derek, and Cole; four great-grandsons, Hunter, Garret, Tyler and Trever, and many nieces and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by his daughter, Beverly; his parents; his brother, Ben Gruis; and his three sisters Wyona Harms, Jenny Ricks and Dorothy Rippentrop." <>
